The neurodegenerative disorder we are looking at today is Parkinson’s Disease. It is commonly seen in people over 60 however the risk is increased with head injuries, chronic inflammation, genetics and exposure to toxins.

IT’S MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY!! 😊

First on our Neurodegenerative Disease series is Alzheimer’s Disease. This disorder typically affects the older population (from 65 to 85+). In rare instances it can affect people between ages 30 to 60, this is called Early Onset Alzheimer’s.

It can be extremely difficult for someone dealing with this disorder to understand and even learn to cope with their new situation; however, their loved ones also get affected by seeing them go through this as well. If you or anyone you know is in this situation please extend some compassion and find out if you could provide any form of support.

IT’S SPORTS INJURY SATURDAYS!!😁

Today we look at Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The carpal tunnel is an area in your wrist made up of the bones at the base of your hand and surrounding ligaments (these form a tunnel/ passage like structure). This disorder can affect one’s quality of life if left untreated for too long. Treatment can be conservative with physiotherapy and occupational therapy; in instances where conservative treatments aren’t enough to alleviate the symptoms, surgery is advised. Should you or anyone you know have any of the symptoms listed above do contact your physiotherapist for an evaluation.
