World Mental Health Day 🌍💚

This year's theme revolves around accessibility to mental health services and associated challenges. This is a global issue that is even more pronounced in resource-limited contexts such as the African continent where a lot of work is needed in addressing disparities.

Cohesive Collaboration has been partnering up with the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) to make a difference in the mental health landscape. Our founder served on this platform with the goal of unpacking another disparity in mental health—the silent crisis in men's mental health.

Green is the designated colour for mental health awareness and October is Mental Health Awareness Month in South Africa. Play your part in whatever way you can this month 💚

'If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.'

One Small Act of Kindness is a local charity organisation that seeks to serve needy families, the homeless, old age homes, foster homes and shelters.

Thank you to the organisation and team for creating such an accessible space and a platform that inspires one to serve. If you feel inclined to play your part in whatever way you can, please reach out to the organisation via email: donate@onesmallactofkindness.org.za

Cohesive Collaboration is still collecting donations for our annual charity drive. If you are able to donate, whether cash or in kind, please reach out to us by the 30th of December 2024, so that our team can start preparing for distribution in the new year.

Individuals, organisations and corporate entities may contact us by emailing admin@cohesivecollaboration.com

It has been a busy year for Cohesive Collaboration with a geographical move and increasing our scope of work to serve as many people as we possibly can 🌍

Haven't posted in quite a while. With all of the travel over the past 12 months and spending time in remarkable spaces of resonance, there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes consolidation of identifying and integrating what truly brings peace of mind and nourishment. The conviction of spending time wisely.

Knowledge and practice. Learn and teach. Insight acquired is insight to be shared. Challenge and reiterative refinement. That is the adventure and beauty of life. Looking forward to sharing all of these changes and exciting developments in the new year.

With such a fast-paced year behind us and the mindfulness that time is our most valuable resource, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and meaningful close to the chapter of the year and rewarding pages ahead.

A post-pandemic workplace.

Just a few months ago, I sat down with Thulasizwe Simelane and hypothesised what a post-acute phase of the pandemic could mean for our workplace settings and the possible implications of how we function in such new milieux.

Navigating the landscape since my interview and the World Health Organization's recent declassification of the pandemic as a PHEIC less than a month ago provides another opportunity to reflect on the significant changes we have experienced in occupational functioning.

The pace of the post-pandemic world (especially in the tough South African landscape we find ourselves in) already has so many on the back foot and struggling to keep up with responsibilities. If we're not intentional about time for self, hollowness may be inevitable.

A recent article in Forbes magazine titled 'Navigating the Post-pandemic World' offers five practical suggestions—cultivate sameness; remove negativity; turn up health; become change-capable and; practice [mindfulness].

More than 200 lives touched 🇿🇦

'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.'

We are pleased to report that we positively impacted over 200 community members as one part of our charity drive in Limpopo—the province where our Founder, Sikander Kalla Clinical Psychologist is from.

We managed to successfully distribute more than 200kg of rice, 150kg of maize meal, 50kg of samp, 50kg of sugar beans, 100 cans of baked beans, and over 100 cans of tinned fish, to name a few of the food items distributed.

Organising this charity drive required a tremendous amount of work, from planning and budgeting to coordinating logistics for the collection, storage and transportation of donated goods.

We want to express our appreciation to all our team members, donors, corporate and media partners who supported us in this charity drive. Most importantly, thank you to all of the community members for bringing the spirit of Limpopo to our initiative.

In addition to our charity drive being about mental health awareness, it is also important to bring a sense of reprieve and hope during the dark and heavy times we find ourselves in.

It was a day of hard work and sweat, but also one filled with uplifting joy and laughter. The t-shirt and chuckles of the last photo sum up the feeling of the day 🤍

Pleased to announce that last month we partnered up with TikTok South Africa to foster more mental health awareness within the country and the rest of the African continent. Our founder, also had the honour of serving as a speaker for their Mental Health Awareness Month campaign.

Looking forward to the collaborative and impactful work that TikTok South Africa, TikTok Global and Cohesive Collaboration spearhead in the mental health awareness and advocacy space on the African continent 🇿🇦 🌍

"We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give." — Winston Churchill.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are pleased to announce this year's Cohesive Collaboration Charity Drive.

We find ourselves at a time when we are speaking about one of the darkest and toughest financial downturns of our lives looming as the year comes to an end. In a context where saving every single cent is a priority, parting with money can be difficult; but if you do have anything at all to spare, whether it's clothes you don't need anymore, or canned food, giving what you can at a time like this can go a long way. If you are able to donate, whether cash or in kind, please reach out to us by the 25th of November 2022, so our team can distribute over the festive season.

Individuals, organisations and corporate entities may contact us by direct messaging Cohesive Collaboration or emailing admin@cohesivecollaboration.com (please put "Charity Drive Donation 2022" on email subject).

With the next month upon us, and in the spirit of Movember, stay tuned for announcements revolving around men's mental health — a space where men continue to suffer in silence and where we need to consistently challenge this silent killer head-on.

Thank you, South Africa 🇿🇦

The President's declaration to terminate the National State of Disaster (effective today) offers an opportunity for more reflection.

We still have a very long way to go with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but that does not invalidate that we have also come a long way since March 2020.

This photo was taken at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital when we were coming out of one of our darkest COVID-19 waves. We had already lost so many loved ones. The uncertainty touched everyone, a sense of loss (in all domains of life) touched everyone and continues to be a part of our lived experience. The hope that the sun would shine on us again was often the only thing that kept us going.

We have soldiered on during the toughest of times and I hope we continue to do so as new COVID-19 infections occur and we manage all the consequences that come with it. Many are also still living through the sequalae of long COVID (mental health difficulties or otherwise).

If there's one thing that the pandemic reminded us of and continues to teach us, it is the importance of collaboration. We are capable of doing so much when we do it together. So, on this milestone day, the 'thank you' is not unilateral acknowledgement. It is mutual appreciation.

Thank you too, for playing your part 🇿🇦

Riky Rick 💔 We have lost so many loved ones. I wish everyone strength and solace during the darkest of times. Hearing about the loss of another beloved artist, I lost myself staring at this functional art at my practice. It often seems that even with the intention of climbing out the depths of despair, we still need people in the shadows, holding us up and creating a platform for our ascent.

More needs to be done to create such mental health platforms. Today, the Cohesive Collaboration Foundation was formed as a nonprofit organisation to create better availability and accessibility to free mental health resources for those in need. Please enquire about these pro bono mental health services at www.cohesivecollaboration.org
