ECD or CYCW — Which fits your organisation best?

Both qualifications offered by Wendywood Development Centre are accredited, blended, and built for the realities of NGO, NPO and care environments but they serve different purposes within the child and youth care ecosystem.

👶 Early Childhood Development (NQF4)
For those working in early learning centres, preschools, or community-based ECD programmes.
This qualification builds the foundational skills to plan, facilitate, and manage daily routines for young children in a developmental, nurturing environment.

🧭 Child & Youth Care Work (NQF5)
For practitioners working with older children and youth in residential or community care contexts.
This programme develops advanced, therapeutic competencies — from managing behaviour and conducting developmental assessments to advocating for children’s rights and supporting trauma-informed practice.

Both programmes are:
✔ Accredited and QCTO-aligned
✔ Blended (face-to-face + online)
✔ Designed with NGO realities in mind

This article unpacks the core competencies every practitioner needs in 2026 and why accreditation is central to professionalising the sector.

💬 "Every qualified caregiver is one more child protected."

We don’t train for theory, we train for impact.
Because every child deserves to be cared for by someone who knows what they’re doing, and why it matters.

Train your team. Change a life.
