🏃♀️Prevent Running Injuries
I am a runner and have been for a while. I often see patients with running-related issues. Running should be fun, not painful!
Here are some of my essential tips to perform your best and remain injury-free:
1. Increase gradually & train smart: Let your body adapt through slow and steady progressive load. Avoid sudden spikes in training volume/intensity.
2. Strengthen glutes, legs & core: Strong muscles protect joints and improve form. Stronger muscles also help you feel better for longer.
3. Warm up, cool down & recover: Stretch your body and allow for proper recovery. This is often overlook and is a common cause of injury.
4. Listen to your body: When starting out running, there can be some discomfort. However, it’s important not to ignore pain. If something doesn’t feel right, take a break, rest and address it.
5. Use proper shoes and good form: Preventing issues is easier than solving them later. Ensure you are using adequate shoes to reduce stress on your feet. Work on good form to maximise efficiency and reduce wear on your body.
