“I went to bed early last night, but I honestly don’t know why I’m so tired lately.”

I looked at her — really looked.
Her eyes seemed heavy, as though keeping them open was a chore.

She yawned again.
“I just feel heavy all the time. The doctors can’t pick anything up.”

What I noticed wasn’t just exhaustion.
It was weight — the kind that comes from carrying too much for too long.
I gently checked in about how life has been recently. Nothing major happened, but enough small things to keep her nervous system on alert at night.

Stress doesn’t always feel like panic.
Sometimes it feels like a heaviness you can’t explain.

Have you been feeling tired in a way that no amount of rest seems to cure?

I can often tell when someone feels nervous by the way they speak.
Their words rush out, as though getting everything out quickly will prevent misunderstanding.

Some words come out shakier, others softer.
Talking starts to compete with breathing - and they sound more breathless as they go.

When that happens, my body mirrors it.
My heart beats a little faster. My breath gets caught in my chest.

So I slow down.
I breathe deeper. I speak calmly. I smile. I reassure them.

I hope that just as my body picked up on their anxiety,
theirs might begin to pick up on safety.

Have you noticed your voice or breath change when you’re under stress?

Depression quietly reshapes your entire body long before you notice it

Most people think of depression as something that lives only in the mind, but science shows it affects your whole organism in ways that are deep and physical.

When your brain struggles your body follows. Stress circuits stay active longer than they should. Cortisol rises. Sleep becomes shallow. Your immune system starts firing in the wrong direction, increasing inflammation throughout your organs. Even your heart rhythm can change as your nervous system loses balance.

Researchers have found that depression alters appetite, digestion, hormones, pain sensitivity, and even the way your cells repair themselves. It is not weakness. It is biology working under pressure. The brain and body are so tightly linked that when one collapses the other feels the weight.

Here is the part that matters. Healing also works in both directions. Support, connection, movement, treatment, and steady routines can calm inflammation, rebalance brain chemistry, and rebuild resilience from the inside out. You are not just lifting your mood. You are restoring an entire system that has been overloaded.

Depression is not a character flaw. It is a whole body condition that deserves care on every level.

For the longest time, I felt like I was on self-destruct mode. I was convinced my brain wanted to harm me, and my body was just an accessory to the crime. Constant seizures, numbness, joints that ached so much I could barely move - my head and jaw hurt constantly, and I could sleep another five hours just minutes after waking. I was sixteen, and life was far from sweet.

What I only realized years later was that I wasn’t self-destructing - I was in survival mode. My nervous system was doing everything it could to keep me alive in an environment filled with tension. It didn’t care about my quality of life - it only cared that I survived. Here are a few things I learned about what chronic stress does to your body.

Joint Pain and Inflammation

The joint pain I felt? It was a result of constant stress. Chronic tension drives inflammation, leaving muscles and joints stiff, sore, and overworked.

Exhaustion and Poor Sleep

The constant fatigue wasn’t laziness — my body never slept properly. It stayed on high alert, always ready to respond to danger. This meant my nervous system kept me in a light, easily awakened sleep state, making true rest almost impossible.

Seizures as a Reboot

Instead of panic attacks, I experienced seizures. It was my body’s only way to release the stored tension — essentially a reboot for my nervous system. Alongside the physical symptoms, I also experienced emotional numbness. What I mistook for calm or being “happy-go-lucky” was really dissociation.

Muscle Tension and Emotional Guarding

My shoulders and neck could have been made of steel - so tight from constant contraction. My muscles were repeatedly told to contract, but never told they were safe to relax. Vulnerability felt dangerous. “I never cry,” I used to say - like it was a badge of honour - not realizing I couldn’t cry because emotional safety didn’t exist.

A Gentle Check-In

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar? Try taking a few minutes to check in with your body and breathe deeply — your nervous system will thank you.

“Turns out I’m great at taking time off… just not at switching off.”

You know that feeling? You’ve packed the bags, switched off your phone, promised yourself this holiday will be different — full of rest, sun, and maybe even some fun (gasp I know!).

And yet… there’s that familiar tightness in your chest. That quiet hum of tension that reminds you you’re not really relaxing - you’re just on pause. Counting down the days until “real life” starts again.

Then, right before the end of the holiday - like finally drifting off at 4 a.m. after a sleepless night - your body starts to soften. It whispers, “Maybe it’s okay to rest now.” And just as you begin to unwind… it’s time to pack up and go home.

Cue January: same exhaustion, same tension, just with a tan and slightly saltier hair. We whisper, “No rest for the wicked,” but really, it’s no rest for the overworked.

Here’s the truth: real rest doesn’t begin when the holiday starts - it begins when your body feels safe enough to let go. 🌿

That’s exactly why I’ve joined forces with to create Release & Rebuild: a 4-week journey that helps your body truly reset.

Your reality may be different from the past hurt and struggle you've experienced - but does your body know that?

Sometimes we get stuck in these trauma cycles because we've never processed the emotional and physical pain of what happened so long ago.

Imagine that you go on a quick trip and you pack a bag full of clothes. While there, the clothes become dirty and you pack them back in the bag for the trip home. Now the healthy response is to unpack the bag and wash the clothes as soon as you get home so that you're ready for your next trip.

But what if no one taught you to do that? What if all you know is to keep your dirty clothes in your bag and when a situation arises where you're running out of space, all you do is get a bigger bag?

We can be like that with our emotions as well. If we're never taught to unpack and process our hurt healthily, all we know is to stuff it deep inside - and when the old pain and hurts are creeping out, we just develop a greater capacity to hide it.

A lot of us are carrying our old clothes-filled bags into the future, and wonder why everything just seems to feel heavier and heavier. It's time to unpack those bags, it's time to heal.
