🧠✨ New Medical Discovery About the Appendix! ✨🧠

Groundbreaking research from Duke University has completely overturned 100 years of medical teaching. Scientists have revealed that the appendix isn’t a useless organ at all—it’s actually a “safe house” for beneficial gut bacteria and may even serve as a secondary control center for your digestive system.

🔬 Using advanced imaging, researchers discovered that the appendix a part of the enteric nervous system contains over 200 million neurons—more than the spinal cord—arranged in complex patterns that can process information on their own.
✅ It can “remember” bacterial infections
âś… Coordinate immune responses independently
âś… Communicate directly with the brain

Most surprising? People who have had their appendix removed show altered gut-brain communication:
👉 Slower digestive responses to stress
👉 Different emotional reactions to foods
👉 Greater risk of recurring intestinal infections

This breakthrough suggests the appendix is a biological backup drive—storing beneficial bacteria and neural pathways to restore gut balance after illness.

⚡ The implications for medicine are enormous: routine appendectomies may cause long-term neurological changes never before recognized. Many hospitals are now moving toward antibiotic treatment for appendicitis instead of surgery.

🌱 This discovery highlights the remarkable connection between the gut and brain—and why holistic, integrative approaches to health are more important than ever.

🚀 The New Pacemaker Theory of the CranioSacral System

Exciting new research is reshaping the way we understand the CranioSacral System. The traditional PressureStat Model has now been updated with the Pacemaker Theory, offering deeper insight into why CranioSacral Therapy so powerfully restores balance and promotes well-being.

Dr. Thomas Rosenkilde Rasmussen, Director of Research at the Upledger Institute International, has identified the Pacemaker Theory as the most probable biological explanation for how the CranioSacral Rhythm is produced and regulated.

This breakthrough shows that:

The central nervous system generates rhythmic activity through oscillating neurons acting as pacemakers.

A central pacemaker in the brainstem near the 4th ventricle produces a rhythm of ~6 cycles per minute.

The autonomic nervous system communicates this rhythm to the body through neurogenic vasomotion (5–7 cycles per minute).

This rhythm, known as the CranioSacral Rhythm, is carried throughout the body via the vascular system.

This exciting research integrates the latest understanding of human physiology and rhythms—highlighting how CranioSacral Therapy truly connects to the foundations of health.

🌿 “The body has its own language…” – Jean-Pierre Barral, DO, MRO(F), RPT

Each patient has a built-in ability to heal and function in good health. With the right tools, training and techniques you can listen to the patient's body with your palpating hand to find the line of tension in the body.

📚 Discover how you can deepen your palpation skills and help patients unlock their body’s natural healing potential.

En route to the U.S. to participate in a series of inspiring Barral Institute trainings!

🔹 Listening Techniques in Washington, D.C.
🔹 Visceral Manipulation 3: The Pelvis in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
🔹 Visceral Manipulation 1 in Houston, Texas

This journey is not only about deepening my clinical practice but also reconnecting with lifelong colleagues from my time at Boston Children’s Hospital in the 1980s — a place that shaped so much of my foundation as a clinician.

Grateful for the opportunity to keep learning, sharing, and connecting across borders and years.

A wonderful Visceral Manipulation 3 (VM3) course on the Pelvis was taught this weekend by Joanne Enslin, Instructor for the Barral Institute USA.
The course explored the intricate relationship between the prostate ligaments and the hip and back—revealing how internal structures can profoundly influence posture and mobility.
One of the standout moments came from a participating CrossFit athlete who experienced a dramatic change. After receiving treatment, he shared that he was able to perform a deep squat—something he hadn’t been able to do for as long as he could remember. Notably, the pain in his left hip had significantly decreased.
The visible shift in posture and the functional changes observed in this case powerfully illustrate the impact of visceral manipulation.
