We often talk about sun damage, but did you know that air pollution is another silent ager of the skin?

Daily exposure can:
• Accelerate premature ageing
• Trigger hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
• Increase the risk of skin cancer with long-term exposure

That’s why cleansing your skin every night is non-negotiable - especially if you wear makeup, which can trap pollutants and hold them against your skin.

Adding a daily antioxidant serum takes your routine a step further. Antioxidants - like Vitamin C, E, and niacinamide - help neutralise free radicals before they cause long-term damage, strengthen your skin barrier, and keep your complexion brighter and healthier over time.

Small daily habits make the biggest difference for your skin health.

Book a consultation with me to find the perfect treatment plan for your skin.

It’s Eczema Awareness Month - time to talk about what eczema really is, and how we can manage it.
Eczema (or atopic dermatitis) isn’t just dry, itchy patches. It’s a chronic inflammatory skin condition influenced by genetics, immune response, and environmental triggers.

While we don’t fully understand why it happens, we do know it’s not contagious - and it often coexists with other allergic conditions like asthma and hay fever.

Managing eczema means caring for the skin barrier, reducing inflammation, and avoiding triggers. Treatments might include moisturisers, topical anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, and sometimes referral for patch testing to identify allergens.

If eczema affects your daily life, you don’t have to face it alone. Book a consultation so we can design a plan tailored for your skin and your lifestyle.

Even if you are diligent about applying SPF, there are a few common slip-ups I see all the time: relying on makeup or moisturiser for protection, using powders or sprays as your only layer, or choosing the wrong SPF strength for our South African sun.

And here’s the one almost everyone forgets… reapplication. Your sunscreen only protects you for so long - if you’re outdoors, sweating, or swimming, it needs to go back on every 2 hours.

The bottom line: sunscreen only works if you use it correctly and consistently.

Start today, your future self will thank you!

Not every bump on your face is “just acne.” 👀

I often see patients who’ve tried squeezing, scrubbing, or treating bumps with over-the-counter acne products - only to make things worse.

Conditions like rosacea, milia, or even sebaceous hyperplasia may look similar but need very different treatments. Some are harmless, others need prescription creams or in-office procedures - but none should be self-diagnosed (or squeezed!).

When in doubt, let a dermatologist take a closer look. The right diagnosis saves time, frustration, and your skin barrier.

Seeing more breakouts when starting a new acne treatment can be confusing - but it’s often part of the process. Treatments like benzoyl peroxide or isotretinoin speed up skin cell turnover, bringing clogged pores and microcomedones to the surface. This early flare-up, called a purge, can usually last anywhere between 2–6 weeks and actually shows the treatment is working.

It’s important to stick with your prescribed routine, use gentle cleansers, moisturisers, and SPF, and follow up with your dermatologist. They can tell the difference between a normal purge and a true reaction, ensuring your skin clears safely and effectively.

Understanding your skin’s response is key - patience and proper guidance make all the difference. ✨

When the eye creams and serums just aren’t cutting it…

Sometimes, those crow’s feet, glabella lines and forehead lines need more than skincare - and that’s where in-clinic Tox injections step in. Safe, effective, and tailored to you.

Because some lines tell stories… but others, we’re happy to smooth. 😉

“Retinol thins your skin” – one of the biggest skincare myths I’ve heard online!

The truth? Retinol does the opposite.

- It stimulates collagen
- Thickens the dermis
- and improves signs of ageing

What you may experience is temporary dryness or flaking - that’s irritation, not thinning.

Here’s how to get the best results (without the irritation):
- Start low & slow - use a pea-sized amount, 2–3 nights a week.
- Pair with a gentle moisturiser to buffer dryness.
- Never skip sunscreen during the day - retinol makes your skin more sensitive to UV.
- Be patient - visible results usually take 8–12 weeks.

Remember: consistency beats strength. And if irritation persists, pause and chat to your dermatologist.

Is it okay for skincare to burn? The short answer: No. A burning sensation means your skin is being damaged.

A burn is a BURN 🔥. Gone are the days when we believed that if it stings or burns, it must be working. That’s a myth. If it burns, it’s harsh and your skin is telling you exactly that.

A mild tingle for a few seconds with actives like AHAs or BHAs can be normal - but if it lingers, stings, or leaves redness, rash, flaking, dark marks , it's a red flag.🚩

Your skincare should support your skin barrier, not break it down. It should be gentle, nourishing and reparative.

If a product burns it is advisable to stop using it and consult with your dermatologist.
