WE ARE STILL OPEN AND NOW OFFERING HOME VISIT PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENTS.

While the practice is still open (Monday to Friday) and we have taken every measure to prevent infection, including screening patients for infection risk before they book and increasing our hygiene practices and sanitising all treatment surfaces, we understand that people may feel more comfortable in their own homes.

Home based treatment is a temporary measure we have introduced due to the need to reduce social interactions. All we ask is you provide a space for us to work and your own towel and pillow for hygiene purposes.

For enquires please contact the practice on 011 447 7355 during office hours. Alternatively send us a Facebook message and we will get back to you ASAP.

Bookings at the practise will be prioritised.

Please note we are still open!! However, with the outbreak of COVID-19 and the President’s address on Sunday evening, we have all been asked to play our part. With this in mind we have implemented a couple changes at the practice to ensure your and our own health and safety when coming into the practice. These steps are as follows:

1. All staff and patients entering the premises are required to use the hand-sanitizer provided.
2. All therapists are required to wash their hands before and after each therapy session.
3. All equipment will be wiped down with disinfectant between uses.
4. We have requested that if you or anyone in your immediate family has been traveling overseas, please refrain from coming to the practice (or having a home session) for a period of 14 days.
5. If you or a close contact is diagnosed with COVID-19 please contact us immediately so we can take the necessary precautions.
6. If any patient, family member or caregiver is experiencing symptoms such as a fever, runny nose, cough, shortness of breath or sore throat, please do not come to the practice. Please contact the NICD hotline on 0800 029 999.
7. The above request applies to all our therapists and tenants at the Wellness center too, anyone that is a risk will be asked to see a doctor before coming to work.

It is everyone’s responsibility to help flatten the curve. Thank you for your co-operation in advance. We have taken a decision at the Wellness Centre to abide by these guidelines in trying to protect ourselves, our patients, our families and everyone in our immediate environment.

So Rashford is out of football for the foreseeable future with a “double back stress fracture.” But what is this??

A spinal stress fracture, or spondylolysis is a small, non-displaced (hasn’t moved) fracture in the spine. This is very different from a spinal fracture as often times there is no actual massive trauma or impact that causes it.

In Rashford’s cases I would suspect the cause being repeated stress to his lower back over a sustained period (bending backwards and jumping to header a ball).
Stress fractures are also common in gymnastics and fast bowlers in cricket.

Unfortunately, treatment does involve rest. However this doesn’t mean he will be lying on his back for 6 weeks. Initially, my treatment would be to focus on his pain management and managing the painful back spasms associated with the injury.

Once cleared for active rehabilitation, I'm sure the physiotherapists will look to improve strength in his lower back extensors, glutes and his core stabilising muscles.

Gradually his rehab workload will increase to more complex exercises focusing on his sports specific exercises until he’s back to a full workload and ready to return to play.

Could Rashford’s injury be easily avoidable? Often times, by simply decreasing his workload, less stress could have been put on his back. Added to this repeated screening and testing to limit any risk of an injury.

Unfortunately, squad limitations as wells the pressure to win trophies means your best players need to be played as often as possible. Added to this the massive fixture over the December period, and you have recipe for injury disasters.
