Despite outdated myths, creatine is the most studied and safest supplements available. There is no evidence that it damages kidneys in healthy individuals. In fact, creatine may actually protect the brain from injury and age-related decline!

Creatine doesn’t flood the brain immediately. Entry across the blood-brain barrier is tightly controlled so single or short term does have little immediate effect. Yes - we are going there. Pregnancy is a state of high metabolic activity with extra nutritional requirements by the mother but what does that mean?

It’s one of the most researched supplements in sport but what about for growing a human? Research in pregnancy is limited, not because it isn’t important but because high quality randomised trials in pregnancy women are ethically complex.

Some research suggest maternal creatine levels may decline in late pregnancy. Case reports and animal studies show adequate creatine may play an important role in fetal growth and brain development.

So while the early science in promising, we need more human data.
