The purpose of the Plusoptix Vision Screening devices are to empower primary health care providers to detect the most prevalent vision disorders in children as early as possible. The earlier a vision disorder is detected the better it can be treated. Eye screening is intended to detect visual disorders including Amblyopia or lazy eye. Many visual disorders – in particular, Amblyopia – if not detected and treated during the first years of life, can lead to permanent visual impairment, which neither glasses or any other visual aid can address. The measuring principle is based on eccentric photoretinoscopy. Infrared light is projected through the pupils onto the retina. Depending on the refractive error, the reflected light forms a specific brightness pattern within the pupil. The spherical refraction is calculated based on this crescent pattern.
