Plusoptix SA The Plusoptix Vision Screening devices empower primary health care providers to detect the most prevalent vision disorders in children.

The purpose of the Plusoptix Vision Screening devices are to empower primary health care providers to detect the most prevalent vision disorders in children as early as possible. The earlier a vision disorder is detected the better it can be treated. Eye screening is intended to detect visual disorders including Amblyopia or lazy eye. Many visual disorders – in particular, Amblyopia – if not detected and treated during the first years of life, can lead to permanent visual impairment, which neither glasses or any other visual aid can address. Ordinary eye tests or visual acuity tests can only be administered when the child is able to speak. PlusOptix is a binocular handheld autorefractor designed for babies, children, and uncooperative patients. Plusoptix devices deliver outstanding measurement accuracy, as well as highest product quality marking it with the seal of quality “Made in Germany”. PlusOptix Vision Screening devices provide reliable measurement values of:

-Refraction (spherical equivalent)
-Pupil diameter and pupil distance
-Symmetry of corneal reflexes

With these measurement values it is possible to detect e.g. following most prevalent childhood vision disorders that may lead to the development of amblyopia (lazy eye) including:

-Hyperopia (farsightedness)
-Myopia (nearsightedness)
-Astigmatism (blurred vision)
-Anisometropia (unequal refractive power)
-Anisocoria (unequal pupil size)
-Strabismus (Eye misalignment)

The measuring principle is based on eccentric photoretinoscopy. Infrared light is projected through the pupils onto the retina. Depending on the refractive error, the reflected light forms a specific brightness pattern within the pupil. The spherical refraction is calculated based on this crescent pattern. To determine cylinder and axis, the same measurement is repeated in three meridians. The measurement with infrared light is completely innocuous. For more information please visit the website.

World Keratoconus Day is celebrated annually on November 10 to raise awareness about keratoconus (KC),a rare eye condition that causes the cornea to thin and bulge into a cone shape.

Here are some facts about keratoconus:

-It can occur at any age.
-Rubbing your eyes can increase the risk of developing KC.
-If you have a family history of KC, it's important to get regular eye exams.
