SAFETY TIPS FOR SENIORS DURING THE RAINY SEASON
As welcome as the rainy season is, it brings increased humidity and a higher risk of infections and accidents. These changes can pose significant challenges to seniors' health and safety.

Here are a few Safety Tips for Seniors during the Rainy Season
🔹Prevent Slips and Falls - Rainy weather often means wet floors and slippery surfaces. Install non-slip mats and rugs as well as grab bars / handrails in key areas, especially entryways, bathrooms, kitchens etc.
🔹Adequate Lighting - Ensure that all areas of the house are well-lit as overcast skies can make indoor spaces darker, increasing the risk of trips and falls.
🔹Prevent Leaks - Check for leaks in the roof, windows, and doors and ensure that gutters and drains are clear of debris to avoid water accumulation.
🔹Proper Ventilation - Dampness can lead to mold growth, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions. Ensure proper ventilation in the home to keep humidity and moisture from building up and use dehumidifiers if necessary.

For older adults, staying active and engaged is essential to physical health, mental wellbeing, and overall happiness. But it’s also important to prioritise safety, especially during hot weather experienced in !!

Here are a few ideas for activities that can safely be enjoyed in summer by seniors:
🔹Morning Nature Walks - Early mornings are ideal for a gentle stroll before it gets too hot. This is a great activity to enjoy as a group. Try a slow stroll through TC Robertson Nature Reserve or an early morning beach walk with friends or a local walking club / group...
🔹A Social Tea Party - Setup an outdoor table in the shade and invite friends over for a traditional summer tea party.
🔹Patio Game Day - Dominoes, chess, or bingo outdoors brings a relaxing change of scenery. Invite a few friends or neighbours over for a Patio Game Day
