Our resident Lorenda has been busy knitting up a storm. She has completed 5 teddies with 5 more to go. These cheerful teddies will greatly benefit dementia sufferers - stuffed toys to cuddle can have a wonderful calming effect. 🐻

Retirement and Farwell
Good morning to you all What an incredible last week of May at Alex Park.
A double celebration.
A milestone Birthday - and Retirement, all in one week! What a way to make an exit!
It was an amazing time being thoroughly spoilt & feted, but an emotional roller coaster ride as well! πŸŽ‰πŸ˜₯

My 10 years as Administrator at Alex Park have flown by so fast and I can honestly say I have had the most rewarding and satisfying working position, thanks to the AHFTA TRUSTEES & the TEAM, with whom I interact & work with daily. I have loved & enjoyed meeting & welcoming many new residents & families, as well as bidding farewell to some (which is always a sad time). Throughout the years I have worked closely with DOSD, many other organizations, church groups, businesses & hundreds of volunteers who are such an integral part of our daily operating program. The hard work, support, care & co-operation of ALL these people have ensured the success of Alex Park & been an absolute Godsend to me personally in my manage - ment of the Home. Sure, there have been many ups and downs along the way, (lots more ups than downs) but through them all, together with the continued support of the Team, we have provided a very valuable and important service to the VIP's - OUR RESIDENTS.
Alex Park has , over the years, become an integral part of my life. The people I work with have become more than just residents & colleagues they have become fiends & "family".
To each of you who have crossed my path or walked the road with me on my journey, I "THANK YOU", most sincerely for your company, support & friendship & I hope we will get to see each other again personally in the future when all these unsettled COVID times are a thing of the past!

A Special Thank You to each of you for the wonderful farewell gifts you gave me last week. The monetary gifts I received from the Trustees, Residents, Staff and Cottage Owners were incredibly generous & most sincerely appreciated. All will be used in setting up a "mini office" at home. A perfect daily reminder of you all. The flowers and numerous gifts from all were amazing. Thank You one and all. πŸŽπŸ’

All that is left now is for me to formally WELCOME MARK FAIRHEAD to Alex Park and wish him well, as he takes up his position as ADMINISTRATOR on the
1st JUNE 2020.
Mark has been working tirelessly alongside me for the past 5 weeks and he has quickly made his "mark" (excuse the pun ). Braaing another of his attributes - only picture I could get of Mark😊

His interest in and care for people, as well as good communication skills have already made him a welcome figure around the Home. Mark, I wish you everything of the best for a great future at AP. I hope you will get as much job satisfaction as I did.

All that remains is for me to say "God bless you all and keep you safe, wherever you may be". Certainly not goodbye., but "Au Revoir" till we meet again in the future. πŸ’– XX πŸ’•

Congratulations to Mark and crew. How heartwarming to see our beloved and sorely-missed residents enjoying a braai for lunch. We are longing for the day we can come back to Alex. Love and hugs from The Kid's Club. β€οΈπŸ’—πŸ’–πŸ’•

What was happening at Alex Park at about 11h30 yesterday? The wonderful smells coming from the garden area, the happy buzz of folk enjoying the lovely sunshine and the excited chatter said it all!
Braai time and a special treat for all. Mark and Tom were seen busy braaing lamb chops and sausages for all our Residents lunch. All were encouraged to sit outside in the gardens, in the main lounge and on the verandha adjacent the garden to watch the "goings on" and to listen to the lovely music being piped through the Home. A buzz from the kitchen assured all, that delicious salads and a trifle for desert was being prepared for lunch by out kitchen ladies.
The smells of braaing meat attracted all to gather round and watch the fun. Yes, lots of comments from the sidelines and suggestions of how things should be done were heard as folk excitedly awaited their lunch.
Thank you to the gentlemen for standing out in the hot sun to do this for us all. Sr Leanne and the staff quickly reorganized seating arrangements in the dining room, ensuring correct spacing rules were adhered to and very soon all were seated enjoying a scrummy lunch. Such a lovely change to an everyday lunch time meal. Thanks guys and to all who contributed to making the morning and the lunch time meal such fun for all. Your care, enthusiasm and hard work made an everyday Thursday SPECIAL βπŸŽΌπŸŒπŸ˜€πŸŽ΅πŸ’žπŸŒŸ
