Myopia (Nearsightedness)
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a common eye condition where distant objects appear blurry while close-up objects remain clear. It occurs when the shape of the eye causes light rays to focus in front of the retina, rather than directly on it.
This condition is becoming increasingly common, especially in children. Modern lifestyles—filled with screen time, indoor activities, and limited outdoor play—are contributing to the rapid rise in myopia cases worldwide.
Early signs of myopia include squinting, frequent headaches, eye strain, and difficulty seeing distant objects like the classroom board or road signs. Fortunately, myopia can be easily diagnosed during a routine eye examination and managed with prescription glasses, contact lenses, or myopia control methods.
At Mokobake Optometrists and Contact Lens Practitioners, we are committed to raising awareness and offering solutions. We invite you to book an eye exam for your child or loved ones—and don’t forget, we offer free eye testing for the elderly every Wednesday.
Your eyes matter. Let’s protect them together.
