Yes, certain frame shapes can beautifully balance your face shape — but the real secret to looking great in glasses is wearing what you love. When you feel good in them, that confidence shines through far more than any trend.

Quick guide to flattering shapes (while remembering the golden rule: choose what makes you happy!):
Round faces → Angular or rectangular frames add definition.
Square faces → Round or oval frames soften strong jawlines.
Oval faces → Almost any shape works — experiment freely.
Heart-shaped faces → Bottom-heavy or cat-eye styles balance the forehead.
Diamond or long faces → Oversized or rounded frames add width and softness.

At Yssel Optometry we help you try on dozens of styles so you can see (and feel) what suits your face and your personality. Come in, play with shapes, and leave loving what you see in the mirror.

Because the best glasses are the ones you never want to take off. ❤️

More screen time often means more demand on young eyes 👀

From schoolwork to everyday use, children and students are spending longer hours on digital devices — which can lead to tired eyes, discomfort, and difficulty focusing.

This May, support their visual comfort with a simple upgrade:

✨ Upgrade to blue light protecting lenses for FREE on qualifying pairs

A small change to their lenses can make screen time feel more manageable during busy days.

Presbyopia is a natural age-related change that affects how your eyes focus on nearby objects 👁️

It can make reading small print, menus, or phone screens more difficult. The good news is that it can be identified during a routine eye exam and managed with the right vision correction.

Most people only realise their glasses don’t fit correctly when they start sliding down their nose, digging into their temples, or causing headaches after a few hours. A well-fitted pair of glasses should feel almost invisible — supporting clear vision without any discomfort or distraction.

At Yssel Optometry we check every detail during your dispensing appointment:
-Your pupils are perfectly centred in the lenses (for sharpest vision).
-The frames sit comfortably without extending past the sides of your face.
-The top of the lenses rests just below your eyebrows.
-When you smile or talk, the frames stay securely in place.
-They never slide down your nose.
-The temple tips rest gently and evenly on your ears.

A proper fit isn’t just about comfort — it protects your prescription accuracy and prevents unnecessary strain. Book your next eye test and frame fitting with us and experience the difference professional adjustment makes! 👓

Finding yourself holding your phone further away to read clearly? 📱👓

Difficulty reading small text can be a common sign of changes in near vision as we get older. An eye examination can help determine what is causing the change and what options are available to improve your vision.

As we head into the cooler months (perfect for more indoor time — but watch those screens!), let's talk myopia management: proactive strategies to curb progression in children, starting before it even begins.

Myopia, or nearsightedness, affects over 40% of the global population and is projected to hit 50% by 2050, driven by genetics, less outdoor time, and intense near-work like reading or devices.

At Yssel Optometry, we focus on pre-myopia prevention for high-risk kids (those with family history or rapid eye growth changes): this involves monitoring axial length (the eye's front-to-back measurement) and encouraging lifestyle tweaks like 2+ hours outdoors daily, which research shows can reduce onset risk by 20-50%.

For progressing myopia, low-dose atropine eye drops (0.01-0.05%) are a game-changer — clinical trials (like the ATOM studies) demonstrate they slow elongation by 30-60% with minimal side effects like mild light sensitivity, making them safe for long-term use in children aged 4-12.

We combine this with other evidence-based options: orthokeratology lenses (worn overnight to reshape the cornea), multifocal soft contacts, or defocus-incorporated spectacles that create peripheral blur to signal the eye to stop growing excessively.

Early action not only sharpens vision now but also prevents high myopia later, reducing the risks of retinal issues or glaucoma.

If your child's prescription is climbing, let's assess and customise a plan — their future eyes will thank you! 👀📈

Here is something most people do not realise:

You normally blink 15–20 times per minute.
On screens? Often only 5–7. 😳

Less blinking = tears evaporate faster.

That can lead to:
🔥 Burning
💧 Dryness
🌫️ Temporary blur
😴 Eye fatigue

If your eyes feel uncomfortable after long screen time, there is a reason.
