It’s not just a plant - it’s a piece of our history. Long before CBD, before oils and teas, cannabis was quietly shaping South African culture for centuries. From indigenous rituals to kitchen recipes, this plant has left its mark in ways you might not expect.

Much like the baobab standing tall on the plains or rooibos brewing in a pot, cannabis has long been a part of South Africa’s cultural and historical landscape.

Traditionally used by indigenous Khoisan and Bantu peoples and later by communities such as the Basotho, the plant’s presence predates European colonization. Arab and Indian traders are believed to have introduced cannabis to the region centuries ago, after which it became woven into the daily lives and culinary traditions of local communities.
This enduring use highlights cannabis’s deep roots in South African heritage.
