The Cape RADD Documentary TRAILER (2018)
The full length documentary will be premiered at the marine talks evening, this Friday 23rd, at False Bay Yacht Club

This documentary explores the efforts from a marine field station based in Simon's Town, South Africa. The team at Cape RADD (Research and Diver Development) explain why this specific area in South Africa is so unique, the research that they do and how they are trying to make a difference.

UPDATED: SEARCH & RESCUE (additional drop-offs):
Wildlife search and rescue teams have been organised in Noordhoek with Four Paws/SPCA and SANParks.
Specialists teams are already in the field in various affected areas.

Volunteer teams in Noordhoek have not been able to go out yet, due to unpredictable flare ups. SANParks will confirm when they are allowed to go out safely.

Four Paws & SPCA need the following supplies - please donate:

* Plastic Drip Trays and Plastic Buckets
* Old Boxes for storing injured survivors
* Towels & Blankets
* Bactroban, Bandages and Cotton Wool balls
* Antiseptic for burns such as Dermavet
* Rugby Socks or LONG school socks for tying around eyes
* Welding Gloves for picking up Porcupines
* Water – small bottles
* Foods: fruit, vegetables

PLUS: First aid equipment and fire protective gear!

WILDLIFE SEARCH AND RESCUE:

Wildlife search and rescue teams have been organised in Noordhoek.
Teams have not been able to go out yet, due to unpredictable flare ups.
SANParks will confirm when they are allowed to go out safely.
In the interim;

More information:
Massive shout out to the people from Four Paws animal relief for briefing teams/volunteers this morning about wildlife rescue.
SANParks is not allowing anyone up on the mountain until they have declared it safe. Groups will be deployed with a SANPark official once they give us clearance.
The aim is NOT to remove any survivors unless they are severely injured/burnt. Many of them cannot be re-introduced to the wild after rehab or even after being out of their surroundings for a few days so PLEASE leave the survivors (eg, tortoises), if they look okay.
Please do however leave out water bowls/plates in your garden for those seeking refuge. Firefighters are also urged to only remove them if they are in harms way. Rescue teams will be with trained professionals so please do not attempt any rescue missions without the proper permission from authorities as it is not safe.

- great news: Erf 60 contracted to for incorporation into the (Table Mountain National Park) for perpetuity!

"Gordon’s has taken this bold decision to contract land in perpetuity, i.e. forever, to SANParks and therefore it will be conserved and protected as part of the TMNP and Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site."

Support local and international calls for increasing marine protected areas, in any way you can (MPAs).
Even if it is just adhering to the following advice, as a resident or tourist in the area:

What can you do to help conserve marine life?
◾Be a responsible tourist and respect the places you visit including the natural, social and cultural environment
◾Don’t buy souvenirs that are made from marine animals: seashells, starfish, seahorses, etc.
◾Don’t buy unregulated, potentially threatened or endangered species being sold as food, medicinal products or souvenirs

“On Saturday the 14th September; a group of four Russian tourists (all very experienced divers) and two local divers were on Tony’s boat for some dives. Their second dive was at the Clan Stuart dive site, which is usually done as a shore entry across the beach but because of the large swell on Saturday they dived from the boat.

Seconds into the dive a great white shark appeared from further down the wreck and circled the divers twice before swimming off. One of the Russian divers, Vladislav Tomshinskiy, had the great presence of mind to film the shark as it swam past the second time..."
