What is Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)?
APD is when the brain struggles to process sounds, making it challenging to understand speech in noisy settings, or to recall verbal instructions, even if hearing is normal.
Who is affected?
APD can affect both children and adults, with studies reporting the prevalence of APD to be about 2–3% among children and up to 70% among older adults.
What are the symptoms?
Some common symptoms include difficulty understanding speech, especially in noisy environments, difficulty following multi-step directions, and being easily distracted by sounds.
What are the challenges?
APD can impact various aspects of life, including learning, communication, and social interactions.
We offer comprehensive evaluations for APD at our Somerset West practice, and you are welcome to contact us to schedule an appointment. Our contact details can be found on our website link below.
