Last Friday, Classes 3 & 4 enjoyed a lovely trip to Oak Valley Flowers. When they arrived, their Apple friends were there to greet them with big smiles. It was wonderful to have extra hands to help push wheelchairs through the greenhouse and the cutting room. The bright, colourful flowers provided a stimulating sensory experience.
Miriam and Sauney realised this was their last outing with the children, which made the moment a bit emotional.
A big thank you to Applewood for joining us on the outing and for the yummy watermelon. We appreciate all the quality time we spent with you throughout the year.
Also, a big thank you to the lovely staff at Oak Valley Flowers for always making this a memorable outing.

We had a wonderful night last night at our 'Biz FM Extravaganza'. Thank you to all the parents, funders, and friends of the Centre who came to cheer the children on. A special thank you to our Applewood friends for helping the children up onto the stage. Our hearts are full!

A big thank you to Indigo Spur Steak Ranch for hosting us last night — it was so much fun! We were pleasantly surprised by the number of diners, so thank you to everyone who came out to support. We left with full tummies and happy hearts.

Class 3 had an exciting trip to FG Jacobs Transport in Strand yesterday. The children took turns pretending to drive the digger, sat in the back of a truck and played on a mountain of beautifully soft sand. Their visit tied in with the Construction Workers theme they had been learning about in class.
The staff there went above and beyond to make the trip special for the children. Thank you, FG Jacobs Transport, for being so thoughtful, for looking out for the children while they were there, and for the yummy cupcakes and treat packs. We appreciate you!

On Saturday, Charlotte led a Parent Workshop on “Make & Play the Low-Cost Way.”
The presentation included examples of fine motor activities that parents and caregivers can do at home using recycled materials.
It was wonderful to see everyone participating in the practical activities. Thank you to all who attended.

Our Story

Bizweni Centre for Children with Disabilities is registered as Special Needs Day-Care Centre located in Somerset West. We currently have 62 wonderful children ranging from the ages of 2 years to 18 years old. The children come in each day to receive education, love, care and the necessary therapeutic interventions. The majority of our children come from disadvantaged communities where access to education and therapeutic interventions is extremely limited for children with disabilities.

Bizweni Centre was established over 20 years ago to provide a safe, loving environment for children with disabilities to learn and grow according to their own potential. Now years later Bizweni Centre has grown and operates as a “school”. The children are divided into 5 classrooms, the lower 3 classes are for the younger children with class 4 and 5 making up the Life Skills section for the children aged 12-18 years old.

We have an incredible team of staff including occupational therapists, a speech therapist, a remedial therapist, teachers and carers. From the time children arrive from the bus until they go the home they are exposed to an environment rich in learning, language and care. One of their favourite lessons is music which is part of our music stimulation program.
