Yesterday, one of our incredible super moms, Linda, opened her heart and shared her journey — from searching for the right diagnosis for her daughter, to facing challenges, and celebrating a very special milestone.
Thank you Linda!

Our buses have been hard at work this week. Transport is often an issue for many of our families. Today, we took some of our parents and their children to Tygerberg Hospital for dental appointments. Yesterday, a different group of parents and children were driven to the Pinelands Orthotics Centre to get fitted for orthotic devices. What a blessing to be able to provide this assistance to our families.

Yesterday, the wonderful Washiela visited HelderbergFM to share her journey with the Centre and insights as a parent of two lovely boys with disabilities. Her story helps open hearts and shift perspectives in our community. We are grateful for voices like hers that bring understanding and awareness. Thank you Washiela!

On Monday, Classes 4 and 5 visited one of their favourite places, Vergelegen Wine Estate. While they were there, other patrons greeted them and stopped to chat, which was so lovely. The Vergelegen staff spoiled our ladies with cappuccinos, treated our teenagers to milkshakes, and went above and beyond for the children in Class 5. They even bought special soft toys that attach to their wrists so they wouldn’t drop them. How amazing is that?! Thank you, Vergelegen, for your hospitality, kindness, and generosity - you made our day.

This weekend, the Paul Roos U16 rugby team will take on Grey College in Bloemfontein in a long-awaited derby they’ve been preparing for all year.

These compassionate young men are playing for more than victory — they’ve chosen to raise funds for the Bizweni Centre, under their slogan “Play for those that can’t.”

We are deeply grateful for their heart, sportsmanship, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our children.

Go out there and give it your all, boys — we’re behind you all the way! 🏉💪

Our Story

Bizweni Centre for Children with Disabilities is registered as Special Needs Day-Care Centre located in Somerset West. We currently have 62 wonderful children ranging from the ages of 2 years to 18 years old. The children come in each day to receive education, love, care and the necessary therapeutic interventions. The majority of our children come from disadvantaged communities where access to education and therapeutic interventions is extremely limited for children with disabilities.

Bizweni Centre was established over 20 years ago to provide a safe, loving environment for children with disabilities to learn and grow according to their own potential. Now years later Bizweni Centre has grown and operates as a “school”. The children are divided into 5 classrooms, the lower 3 classes are for the younger children with class 4 and 5 making up the Life Skills section for the children aged 12-18 years old.

We have an incredible team of staff including occupational therapists, a speech therapist, a remedial therapist, teachers and carers. From the time children arrive from the bus until they go the home they are exposed to an environment rich in learning, language and care. One of their favourite lessons is music which is part of our music stimulation program.
