AI is smart, but it can be convincingly wrong. 🧬 It doesn’t have the privilege of knowing you when you’re well, which makes it hard for a machine to tell when you’re not. Let's work as a team to make sure the technology is helping, not hurting. 🙌

Your future self is quietly cheering for the habits you build today.

For Dr Theresa Jordaan, good healthcare isn’t only about treating illness. It’s about supporting the small, consistent behaviours that keep you well in the long run.

👉 Catching small changes early
Noticing shifts in sleep, appetite, energy, mood, or pain patterns - and checking in before they escalate.

👉 Taking recovery seriously
Not pushing through illness, fatigue, or stress spikes. Resting early prevents complications later.

👉 Building a relationship with your doctor
Seeing the same doctor consistently so they can spot patterns you might miss.

One step at a time, these habits add up. And your future self is already grateful.

It’s National Burns Awareness Week (13–17 May) — a reminder that most burn injuries happen at home and can be prevented with quick, informed action.

If someone gets burned, cool the burn, keep it clean, and cover it with a non stick dressing. Never use ice, butter, or toothpaste.
If the burn is large, blistered, on the face/hands/feet, caused by chemicals or electricity, or shows infection, seek medical care immediately.

Awareness saves lives — share this to help protect your community.

As shown in today’s video (link in comments), nurses remain the steady pulse at the heart of quality healthcare. For Dr Theresa Jordaan and our entire onsite team, Sr Maureen from Lancet Laboratories is that pulse.

She brings dedication, life, love, care and professional skill to our workplace every single day. In honor of International Nurses Day, we salute you, Sr Maureen. We deeply respect and appreciate everything you do. 🩺💙

In South Africa, our nurses are the pulse of our healthcare system, yet they face a shortage of over 26,000 colleagues.

In the Western Cape, one nurse is responsible for roughly 1,400 people. While the global theme is 'Our Nurses. Our Future', the reality on the ground is a struggle for survival. With the lowest nurse-to-population ratio in South Africa, our healthcare pulse is weakening.

We don’t just need 'thanks'—we need staffing, safety, and a fairly paid nursing workforce to ensure that when you need care, a nurse is actually there to give it. 🇿🇦🩺

Protect the pulse. Empower our nurses.

From everyone at the surgery, Happy Mother’s Day.

We all have that person. To me, it is more than a person — it is a feeling.
It is warmth. It is love. It is protection. It’s comfort. It is rules. It is home.
And it’s always in our heart.
Happy Mother’s Day.

Insomnia isn’t caused by just one thing — and it’s not always as simple as “I’m stressed”. Dr Jannie Mouton explains how sensory overload, constant screen exposure, lifestyle habits, vitamin or electrolyte imbalances, flu season symptoms, and mental health conditions can all disrupt your sleep.

We live convenient lives, but not necessarily healthy ones. If your brain can’t switch off, if you’re juggling too many responsibilities, or if your body simply can’t settle… your sleep will show it.

Good sleep hygiene matters. Start winding down earlier. Reduce screen time. Create a routine your body can rely on.

If you’re struggling with insomnia or ongoing sleep problems, professional help can make a real difference.

Multiple Sclerosis doesn’t look the same for everyone — and it doesn’t progress the same either. There are four different forms of MS, each with its own pattern of symptoms, flare ups and progression.

For many South Africans, MS remains misunderstood and under diagnosed. By learning the different types, we help create earlier recognition, better support and stronger awareness for those living with this invisible condition.

MS has many faces. Many journeys. All deserve to be seen.
Let’s raise awareness in South Africa.

Curiosity is healthy. If you’ve asked a chatbot about your symptoms, that’s a great first step. Even the smartest technology can miss the human details.

If you’ve been exploring health advice online or with AI tools, bring those insights to your next appointment - together we can make sense of what’s useful and what’s not.

Struggling with sleep doesn’t mean medication should be your first stop. As Dr Jannie Mouton explains, healthy habits and a consistent sleep routine — even on weekends — make a powerful difference. Just like babies thrive on predictable sleep patterns, adults do too. A steady rhythm helps your body reset, recover, and rest properly.

If you’re dealing with insomnia or ongoing sleep problems, we’re here to help. Contact our team to book an appointment: https://www.tjordaan.com/our-doctors
