Helderberg Hospice Squares for Care for World Cancer Day

Join us as we launch our Squares for Care crochet campaign on World Cancer Day.

What to expect:

-A relaxed, welcoming crochet space inside the shop
-Friendly volunteers teaching basic crochet stitches
-A drop off point for crochet squares and supplies
-Conversation, and community connection

You are welcome to:

-Learn how to crochet
-Crochet squares with us (please bring your own crochet needles and dk wool)
-Donate dk wool, needles, or completed squares
-Simply stop by and support the initiative

Skin Cancer Awareness Month reminds us that health is cumulative. What we do daily adds up. Protection. Awareness. Early action.

Hospice care exists because life is fragile, precious, and unpredictable. As we mark forty one years of service in the Helderberg, we remain committed to both prevention conversations and compassionate care when it is needed most.

Early detection changes outcomes.

A new spot. A changing mole. A wound that does not heal.

These signs are easy to ignore until they are not. Skin cancer awareness is about paying attention and acting early. It is also about compassion when treatment becomes complex.

Our multidisciplinary hospice team supports patients physically, emotionally, and spiritually when curative treatment is no longer the path.

Sun safety is prevention, Hospice care is dignity and both matter.

Sun safety is a family responsibility. Children’s skin is especially vulnerable, and damage in early years increases cancer risk later in life.

Simple habits save lives. Hats at school. Sunscreen before sports. Shade during peak hours.

Care is not only about treatment. It is about awareness, education, and community responsibility. This January, let us protect the people we love today and tomorrow.

Our home care does not happen by accident. It happens through people who choose to give monthly. The Change Makers Club is our community of regular donors who help sustain hospice home care all year round.
