WHO SHOULD BE TESTED?
The following are indicators that you are at risk to osteoporosis and should get tested:
1. Women aged 65 years and older, and men over the age of 70 years.
2. Early menopause (< 45 years of age),
3. Amenorrhoea in premenopausal women, or other causes of hypogonadism in women or men.
4. Diseases known to adversely affect bone (e.g. Rheumatoid arthritis, coeliac disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus etc)
5. Bone toxic drugs: (cortisone, anticonvulsants, aromatase inhibitors etc.)
6. Radiographic evidence of a vertebral fracture or osteopenia.
7. Fragility fracture after age of 40 years
8. Family history of hip fracture of osteoporosis
9. Excessive leanness (BMI
