Vita Nova Centre - Operation Hope Grows Vita Nova Centre is a residential facility that cater for the mentally and physically challenged. Some of our children are blind, deaf and have HIV/AIDS.

APPEAL – 2022/2023

Vita Nova Centre is a residential facility in Springs. We cater for persons with Cerebral Palsy, Downe Syndrome, Autism and the physically and mentally challenged. At the moment we have 122 residents at the centre ranging from the age of 3 years and older, the oldest being 79 years old. They arrive at the centre with nothing and we provide them with toiletries, nappies, bedding and clothing. We give all our children lots of love and care, something they so desperately need and deserve!! Most of our younger children are either abandoned or come from disadvantaged areas. All our residents are uneducable and will never be able to go out and earn a living for themselves. They will forever need care, love and assistance. Vita Nova means “New Life”. To the more unfortunate, Vita Nova will be the only home they will ever know and we strive to make it as homely and as happy as possible. Covid-19 put a huge financial strain on the centre as all donations stopped and fund-raising events had to be cancelled for the year. For the 2022/2023 financial year which starts on the 1 April 2022 ends the 31st March 2023, we are looking at a deficit of –R3 361 379-00. Our total average monthly income is R803 448-33 and our average monthly expenses are
R1 083 563-25 giving us an average deficit of -R280 114-92 per month. Our highest cost is salaries which is R676 000-00 per month for 92 staff. We are not permitted to use government subsidies for salaries, only parent fees and disability grants. Our food is R125 200-00 per month also depending on the amount of donations we receive. We have cut the meat order to only twice a week and rely heavily on donations of mince, wors and chicken. Electricity is on average R230 000-00 a month. We are currently in arrears with the amount of R530 029-00. The cost of keeping a child at the centre is approximately R9183-00 per month. If the centre is forced to close due to Government, the residents will have no place to go. They cannot fend for themselves at all and most of the residents need
24 hour care. Local businesses have been very generous in improving facilities the past few years at the centre but they prefer to do projects and not give money for day to day expenses. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Financial contribution can be made to –

The day proved to be both entertaining and educational, with residents receiving instruction on fundamental fire safety practices.

Residents watched with excitement as firefighters demonstrated how to extinguish a fire, complete with the fire engine and blaring sirens.

Today, the City of Ekurhuleni, Provincial, Tshwane, and Umfuleni Fire Departments visited Vita Nova Centre as part of International Fire Awareness Safety Month, celebrated every October.

What an awesome group of people! Our residents were thrilled by the various displays, the impressive fire engine, and the many cheerful new faces. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, excitement, and even a little water spray – a fun highlight for many!

A special thank you to everyone who took the time to visit the centre today. We are incredibly grateful for the installation of fire detectors in the Sparrows Hostel and two stimulation rooms, as well as the addition of emergency lights. Your thoughtful gifts, including the teddy bears and your lovable mascot, the rhino, brought joy to so many.

We were not only entertained but also educated, and we feel truly blessed by your presence. Thank you for making safety awareness such an engaging and memorable experience.

With heartfelt thanks to Leigh Lawrence for the beautiful board created for Vita Nova Centre’s Wall of Remembrance.
Your thoughtful gift means so much to us. It gives us a meaningful way to honor and remember all our past residents who have received their angel wings.

This tribute holds a special place in our hearts as we remember precious little Matthew — a brave and beautiful soul who touched countless lives during his time with us.

Thank you for helping us keep his memory, and the memories of so many others, alive with love.

Dear Friends and Supporters,
Our main gate at Vita Nova Centre is in urgent need of repairs. To enhance the safety of our residents and reduce strain on the gate motor, we plan to install a pedestrian gate within the existing main gate structure.

This will allow foot traffic to move in and out safely without operating the main motorized gate each time, helping us protect both our infrastructure and our residents.

If you’re able to support this important safety upgrade, any contribution—big or small—would mean a great deal to us.
