HOLI marks the arrival of Spring with vibrant festivities. This ancient Hindu festival symbolises the victory of good over evil, love, and the rejuvenation of nature; featuring bonfires, and colourful celebrations.
Even though we were in an Ashram (a very remote one) and in Silence; we celebrated - as there were a number of Indian students on our Intensive. Us Westerners learnt the story of Holika, who was the evil King’s sister and who had immunity to fire. She lured her nephew Prahlad into the flames to kill him, but it was she who got burnt and he came out unscathed. To this day, at Holi time, fires are lit and as they look into the flickering flames people remember the story of Holika and Prahlad and how good triumphs over evil. 🔥
