Busy parents, I get it.
You’re looking to fill those lunchbox spaces with snacks that will keep your kids going. You’ve got some chopped fruit and nuts but you need quick, easy sandwich fillers and these cheese slices make life SO much easier!
Don’t do it! Get the real thing and slice your own.
As a rule of thumb, convenience foods are not generally healthy foods.
They are pumped with preservatives for a longer shelf life. And multiple clinical trials have shown that not only allergies but lack of focus, digestive issues, anxiety and depression can all be linked to convenience foods. There isn’t a pill your child can swallow that will undo the harm these foods do. When my kids were small, I also battled. I stood at the fridges searching for 💯 fruit juice I could water down for a treat. You really had to look hard, beyond the 40% “real fruit” juices!! In the end I started making my own snacks.. date balls made with coconut and nuts and dates, raw veg and fruit with a homemade dip, some dried fruit.. I can’t guarantee they ate it all but at least I can guarantee I wasn’t encouraging an UPF diet.

The NIH describes this as “characterized by high intakes of red and processed meats, saturated fats, refined sugars, and ultra-processed foods..”

It makes my blood boil when I get a client who has been so fully invested in a HFLC cult and wants out but can’t imagine consuming CARBS again!!

CARBS are the only way to restore your gut.

CARBS contain FIBRE.

If one of your friends has lost tonnes of “weight” on a low Carb, it’s probably because they’ve given up the s**t ones they shouldn’t have been eating in the first place!

A woman next to me in the checkout commented on how she hates tofu as it’s tasteless.
She’s got a point.
But the wonderful thing about this ancient plant based PROTEIN, (do I get a point for the buzz word? 🤔) is that it is also very versatile and porous!

This means it absorbs whatever flavours you add.

My wellness tribe have learned to MAP their SPICE drawers 🌏
WHY?
Taking your food around the globe, boosts your phytonutrient load and changes things up!

Tonight I played with spices from India and tossed Garam Masala, cumin, turmeric, kolanji and coriander..into a bag, followed by cubed tofu.

Shook it up, added oil to a pan and lightly fried.

DELICIOUS!

It made a great side for my black bean, mushroom and leek stir fry.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPICES:

GARAM MASALA: Anti inflammatory, Antioxidant, blood sugar stabilizer, Digestive health.

CUMIN: high iron, anti bacterial and all of the above 👆🏽

KOLANJI: anti microbial immune boost that offers all of the above 👆🏽

TURMERIC: The brain spice 🧠 linked to improved memory, growth of new brain cells and protects the heart. Best absorbed with a healthy fat such as olive oil.

CORIANDER: If they bottled fresh coriander I would wear it as a perfume 🤩 LOVE this plant food! It is an antimicrobial, antiseptic digestion boost with all of the above benefits to boot!

Swapping out meat for tofu means reducing your saturated fat intake so give it a go!
