Our regular occupational therapy days are a highlight for our more mobile patients! These sessions provide social interaction with others facing similar challenges, stimulating practical activities and fostering joy and engagement.

As we move toward the middle of the year, I find myself pausing to reflect.
At the start of the year, many of us set intentions and goals, but I’ve come to value this mid-year moment just as much. It’s a chance to ask: What have we achieved so far, and where are we heading next?

For us at Hospice Stellenbosch, this year has already brought meaningful progress, but also important reminders of the work still ahead. One of my personal goals for the remainder of the year is to grow and strengthen our volunteer programme by deepening community involvement.

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and I would love to see more people step into this space of care, connection, and service.

We also have a number of events coming up, and my hope is that they do more than raise awareness. I hope they bring people together, sparking conversations, building relationships, and opening doors to new ideas for sponsorships and fundraising support.

Because ultimately, this work is not ours alone. It belongs to the community we serve and the community that supports us.

As we continue into the second half of the year, I remain deeply hopeful about what we can still build together.

Hospice Week this May reminds us that palliative care is a right, not a privilege. It is about dignity, comfort, and being cared for with compassion in life’s most vulnerable moments.

We honour the nurses, doctors, counsellors, and volunteers who give so much of themselves to support patients and families, often in the quiet, familiar spaces of their own homes, where care feels most human and most needed.

Meet Sr Hildarose Swart, one of our very special nurses. With 48 years of nursing experience and nearly 11 years dedicated to Stellenbosch Hospice, her passion for care shines in everything she does.

Sr Hildarose is filled with compassion, kindness, and love, touching the lives of patients, families, and colleagues alike. We are incredibly grateful to have her as part of our team - truly a blessing to our Hospice community. 💖

Today at Stellenbosch Hospice, are hosting our braai plate fundraiser in aid of raising funds for hospice care.

A very special thank you to our amazing volunteers, Claudette and Kosie, for bringing this wonderful fundraiser together for us. Your dedication and hard work are truly appreciated.

A big thanks to all the men who came out to braai. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who worked behind the scenes, donated items, contributed financially, and supported us in any way.

And to every person who bought a braai plate thank you for your support and generosity. Because of you, this fundraiser is a wonderful success, and your contribution helps us continue caring for those who need it most.
