We assess your range of motion using a goniometer to track progress and ensure your treatment is working.

Because recovery isn’t guesswork, it’s measured. 📐

Our hand therapists often assess grip strength to keep track of clients’ progress and keep them motivated.

A few fun facts regarding grip strength:

💚Grip strength can be a good predictor of lifespan and future health
💚Grip strength generally hits a peak in your 30s, then begins to decline around age 50
💚Low grip strength is correlated with reduced cognitive function
💚High grip strength can be a maker for slower biological aging
💚Low grip strength is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases

Let’s see how some of our hand therapists did in the video!

Marching into the long weekend like… 😄

We tried the “marching with your eyes closed” challenge in the office and let’s just say, staying in one spot is WAY harder than it looks!

Want to give it a go this weekend?

How to play:
1️⃣ Set a timer for 1 minute
2️⃣ Close your eyes and march in place (we marked a X on the floor to track our start point!)
3️⃣ Open your eyes and see where you ended up

This fun challenge actually shows how much we rely on our balance, coordination, and body awareness (proprioception) to stay on track.

🎥 Watch our team give it a try and tag us if you do it too!

Hip Rehabilitation

“Hip, Hip, Hooray!”

In the early stages of hip rehabilitation, we focus on the HIP, HIP… but we must never forget the HOORAY!

Good rehab looks at the whole body, strength, stability, and movement all working together.

Our physiotherapists can guide you through every stage of your recovery.

What you think core rehab looks like… vs what core rehab should look like!

Core rehab is not about doing the biggest movement or feeling the burn.

When the deep core muscles aren’t activating, the body compensates with the wrong muscles, which can lead to strain, pain, and poor progress.

Proper core rehabilitation should focus on:
✔ Deep core activation
✔ Glute support
✔ Relaxed neck with deep neck flexors engaged
✔ Lumbar spine in a neutral position

Small, controlled movements done correctly are far more effective than big movements done with compensation.

If you’re not sure whether you’re activating the right muscles, a physiotherapist can help guide you.

Our story

Therapy in Action opened its doors in 2010 in Stellenbosch at Weidenhof Street. The partners at that stage recognized the need for a multidisciplinary team approach combining the expertise of both Physio & Occupational therapy. We saw the benefit of combining our services to obtain the best results for our clients, whilst facilitating earlier return to work.

We initially honed our services in hand and work-related injuries which inadvertently led to the establishment of a therapeutic gym area comprising of a word hardening floor area, cardiovascular equipment and simulated work activities. By providing different services at the same practice we were able to improve communication, goal planning & rehabilitation outcomes. This in turn further assisted our patients by lessoning their travel time and expenses.

In June 2013 we expanded our services to Somerset West, 3A Arun Place, also making our services available to the Helderberg and Overberg districts. Our rehabilitation statistics continued to reflect promising recovery and earlier to work time frames and we were now able to filter it through to these areas.

We were fortunate to welcome a Dietitian & Psychologist to our team in association to our services. This naturally meant that we could offer a wider service provision to our clients. We also started focusing on treating more private patients especially in the area of sport injuries and chronic pain conditions. Our service provision to insurance providers and corporate clients expended and we increased our assessment expertise in work related conditions and -illnesses involving psychosocial and cognitive sequlae as well.
