During cataract surgery, the eye’s cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) — a clear, artificial lens designed to restore vision.

Modern IOL technology allows highly precise visual outcomes, with different lens types available to address individual needs.

While the procedure is brief, accurate measurements and proper lens selection play the largest role in achieving sharp, comfortable vision after surgery.

Clear information and consistent follow-up form the foundation of successful cataract care.

Cataract surgery is not based on age — it is based on quality of life.

Surgery becomes appropriate when clouded vision interferes with daily tasks such as reading, driving (especially at night), working on screens or navigating bright environments.

If blurred or glare-affected vision is limiting your confidence or comfort, it may be time for a clinical evaluation.

A thorough assessment helps determine whether the cataract has reached a stage where surgical treatment will meaningfully improve vision.

Choosing the right intraocular lens (IOL) is an important part of planning cataract surgery.

Different lens types offer different visual benefits, and the best option depends on each patient’s eye measurements, lifestyle and visual needs.

The AAO explains how surgeons select an IOL and what patients should understand before surgery.

Cataracts are one of the most common causes of vision decline as we age — but also one of the most treatable.

A cataract forms when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, making it harder for light to pass through clearly. Many people first notice trouble with night driving, glare from lights, or a gradual “film” over their vision.

The good news: cataracts develop slowly, and early assessment helps ensure the best outcome when treatment is needed.

Regular eye exams remain the most effective way to monitor changes and maintain clear vision throughout your later years.

Eyes May Reveal Early Signs of Alzheimer’s

Emerging research shows that the retina — a true extension of the brain — can change in ways that mirror neurodegeneration. Routine eye exams and retinal imaging might one day help detect risk of dementia years before memory symptoms appear.

Macular Holes: What You Need to Know

✅ What Is a Macular Hole?
A macular hole is a small break in the macula—the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. It can cause blurriness, distorted vision, or a dark spot in the centre, while peripheral vision remains unaffected.

✅ Causes
Most often age-related, macular holes occur when the vitreous gel in the eye pulls away from the retina. Other causes include eye trauma, retinal detachment, or certain eye conditions.

✅ Treatment
The primary treatment is a vitrectomy, a surgical procedure where the vitreous gel is removed and replaced with a gas bubble that supports healing and closure of the hole.

If you're experiencing symptoms like central blurring or distortion, early diagnosis is key.
