***Legionella enumeration now available at Vinlab H2O***

Legionella occurs naturally in freshwater sources, such as rivers and lakes. Generally, these levels are negligible but when conditions are favourable Legionella can proliferate to dangerous levels potentially causing Legionnaires disease.

Ideal environments for Legionella growth include systems with insufficient circulation, systems that are poorly maintained or systems that have lower flow rates, often due to water shortages.

Legionella can easily be transmitted by any source that generates aerosols or a fine mist of water. Even after water has been centrally treated at a public water facility Legionella can colonize in water supply systems and plumbing systems of buildings.

Total organic carbon (TOC) is a direct expression of the total organic content of water and is comprised of multiple organic compounds in various oxidation states. Compounds measured can be oxidized further via biological or chemical processes. This measurement is, therefore, independent of the organic matters oxidation state and does not measure organically or inorganically bound elements.

Microcystin detection available at Vinlab H2O!

Microcystins are hepatotoxins produced by Cyanobacteria, also recognized as blue-green algae. Cyanobacteria can be present in fresh water and may cause algal blooms if sufficient inorganic nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorous, are present.
