This toy is loud, fast, and SO much fun — exactly what we need to grab a child’s attention in therapy!

Here’s why I love it:
⏱ Waiting Skills: Perfect for teaching “ready… steady… GO!”
🗣 Carrier Phrases: “One, two, three, go!” → great for early sentence building
🙋 Requesting: I hold the balls and wait — giving the child a chance to point, gesture, or say “ball” or “more.”
👀 Joint Attention: We watch the ball together and share excitement
🎉 Turn-Taking: Take turns dropping the ball — social skill practice made fun

💡 Therapist Tip: Pause just before “GO!” to see if your child will try to say it — the excitement is a great motivator!

Peekaboo books are one of my favourite tools in early intervention — and not just because they’re adorable!

Here’s why I use them in therapy:
👀 Joint Attention: Kids learn to look where you look and share excitement.
👋 Greetings: Each flap is a chance to model “hello!” (e.g., “Hello duck!” 🦆).
🗣 Repetition: Perfect for practicing the same words again and again.
🤲 Turn-Taking: Your child lifts the flap, you model the word — then switch.
🧠 Vocabulary: Colours, animals, actions — all in one book!
🎶 Engagement: Pop-up surprises keep kids focused and wanting more.

💡 Tip for Parents: Pause before you say the word — give your child time to try it first. Even if they just smile or point, that’s communication!

Pretend play is one of the BEST ways to boost language — and cutting fruit & veg sets are my go-to!

Here’s what we can work on:
🗣 Vocabulary: “apple”, “banana”, “carrot”
🧠 Action Words: “cut”, “eat”, “wash”, “cook”
🙋‍♀️ Requesting: Give choices (“apple or carrot?”) so your child can point or say what they want.
🤲 Sequencing: “First cut… then eat!”
🔢 Counting: “One, two pieces of apple!”
🎉 Commenting & Praising: “Wow, you cut the apple!”

💡 Therapist Tip: Slow down and narrate what you see — keep language simple, repeat often, and give space for your child to join in.

➡️ have a great selection of sets.

Simple, cheap, powerful. Bubbles are one of my go-to tools for sparking communication. 🫧

💬 Work on: requesting (‘more’), turn-taking, eye contact, imitation (‘pop!’), waiting and counting (‘1, 2, 3…. Blow!’), catch the bubbles and say “pop” as you squash them, stomp on the bubbles that you see on the floor.

Sticky bubbles do come off clothes and upholstery, so enjoy!!

P.S. You can get these at

These puzzles do more than just beep and sing!
Here’s how I use them in therapy:

🔈 Listen & Match – great for kids learning to connect sounds with objects
🗣 Imitate Sounds – ‘neigh’, ‘woof’, ‘beep!’
👆 Requesting Help – perfect opportunity for ‘help’, ‘open’, ‘more’
💡 Vocabulary Growth – name each piece as you place it

➡️ Tip: Buy a book bag to keep all the pieces together when storing this - which in turn, can also be used to keep the pieces in when playing and the child has ask (request) and choose which animal should be next.

Did you know? 📚

If a child can’t understand what’s said…
➡️ they’ll struggle to understand what they read.

If a child can’t put words together to express ideas…
➡️ writing becomes a real challenge.

The best results come from teamwork — and the SLT is right in the middle of it all.

A school-based SLT doesn’t just support the child — we support the adults around them, too.

👩‍🏫 With teachers, we help make sense of a learner’s communication needs and how these affect learning. We guide classroom strategies, modify tasks, and advocate for the child so they can reach their full potential.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 With parents, we act as a bridge — helping them understand what’s happening at school, offering guidance at home, and working together to plan for their child’s academic journey.

🧠 Whether we’re supporting a learner with language difficulties, speech sound errors, or complex communication needs, we’re in their corner — helping them access education and thrive.

💡 Communication support is a team effort — and every voice matters.

What Does a Speech Therapist Actually Do at a School? 📝

“So… do you just help with /r/ and /s/-sounds?”

Nope! A school-based SLT (Speech-Language Therapist) supports so much more than just pronunciation.

Here’s what we really help with:
✔️ Speech sounds (articulation, phonology)
✔️ Language skills (understanding & using words)
✔️ Social communication (conversation & play skills)
✔️ Stuttering (fluency)
✔️ Voice (tone, volume, vocal health)
✔️ Literacy support (listening, phonological awareness, vocabulary)
✔️ AAC (for children who use little or no spoken language)

We help children communicate, connect, and learn — in and beyond the classroom.

Spelling Trouble? Check the Listening First!

Is your child struggling with spelling? It might not be about how much they know — but how much they can hold onto.

Spelling depends on auditory memory — the ability to remember sounds in the right order. 🧠

If your child writes “frn” for “fern” or “bak” for “black,” they may be missing or mixing up the sounds they heard.

Build auditory memory through word repetition, echo games, and breaking words into parts. 🧩

Listening is literacy’s secret superpower.💡
