A huge shout-out to Premier Alan Winde and his lovely wife, Tracy, for taking the time to visit the Boland School for Autism - a cause so close to my heart.

This is what community is all about - showing up, supporting one another, and making a difference together.

Thank you, Drakenstein Municipality, for shining a light on meaningful causes like the Boland School for Autism - an institution so close to my heart. As they say, it takes a village, and by raising awareness, we can join hands to build an even stronger, more supportive community.

Empowering every child to reach their full potential, the Boland School for Autism prioritises inclusion, growth, and understanding. Our dedicated team works...

Autism Acceptance Month starts with World Autism Autism Awareness Day on April 2 and continues throughout April.💙

The theme for World Autism Acceptance Month in 2025 is “Celebrate Differences.” It encourages us to see that each person is unique and their differences are a normal part of life. Instead of thinking of autism as a condition that needs to be fixed, we should celebrate the differences autism brings.

This month is all about autism acceptance, a movement that promotes understanding and supporting autistic people. It’s not just simply raising awareness—it’s about taking action to build understanding, promote inclusion, and create supportive environments for them.

I always get this overwhelming sense of gratitude as the work year comes to an end - and honestly, it feels stronger every year as I get older!

Back when I was a student, we used to joke, "You don’t choose this profession; it chooses you" or "It’s not a job; it’s a calling." And wow, how true that is! I feel so privileged to walk this path with so many children and families.

It’s not always an easy road - there are plenty of ups, but inevitably, there are downs too. Still, the victories (no matter how big or small!) and the joyful moments along the way make it all worth it. I get to meet so many wonderful, diverse people and learn from every single one of them. But honestly, the best part? It’s the love - I get to experience so much love every day.

If I had to choose a new career, I’d stick with this one. Speech therapy was, and still is, my calling.

Wishing you all the happiest holiday season! May it be filled with joy, laughter, and, most of all, love.

Love,
Ronelle 🩷

A big thank you to Tamara van Zyl Audiologist for sharing some insightful articles on ear infections and their impact on early learning with me.

Ear infections are quite common, with around 90% of children experiencing them by age 4. Chronic or recurrent otitis media, which can last for months or even years, may lead to significant health and educational challenges if left untreated. Research indicates that children with frequent ear infections often face delays in speech and language development, and they may encounter difficulties with auditory processing and academic performance later on.

For more details, check out the blog post here: https://slabbertspeechtherapy.co.za/understanding-ear-infections-and-their-impact-on-early-learning/. I've combined and summarized key information from the articles.
