Our clients print notebooks with all sorts of cover designs. In a recent project, Darylle Iris (.thestudio) took a different route. The KZN-based Architect and Fine Artist used the blank covers of our notebooks as a canvas for a range of one-off artworks. Each notebook features a hand-painted cover and is signed by the artist.

.co.za is a multi-disciplinary creative agency based in Pretoria Central. They commissioned us to create these custom notebooks to be used as branded in-house stationery.

To highlight their distinct approach to illustration and design, they opted for a hand-illustrated cover design. Blank off-white inner pages were used to maximise creative freedom, and yellow stitch-binding tied it all together.

Cape Town based artist Nuri Nevada commissioned us to create custom notebooks for her online store.

"Nuri's art is typified by rich abstract colours, eclectic faces and vibrant scenery which is mainly inspired by the artists Picasso and Kahlo. Her goal has always been to offer excitement and happiness through art and it is within these colourful and abstract pieces that her love for creativity and eccentricity is truly expressed."

Social media is saturated with artists competing for attention. Creating these custom notebooks allowed Nuri to bring her work to a wider audience in a tactile format that cuts through the digital noise. As an artist, it was vital that her work was printed at its best, while still keeping the notebooks at a reasonable price. We opted for high-quality digital printing on premium archival paper stock to achieve this balance.

New zine just landed! Sugar City is a zine inspired by songs from Rainbow Kitten Surprise, an American indie-alternative band. This zine brings to life four of their songs by extracting clues from their lyrics. Portraits of characters in the songs were created, along with different environments they might belong in, to create the multicoloured world that is Sugar City.

This zine was created by Joburg based designer and illustrator Jade Rawson, otherwise known as BoringJade.

This month’s featured project is a magazine-style booklet we made for a Pretoria-based architecture firm. The firm is part of an international student exchange programme. When the architecture students arrived in South Africa they were briefed on a project as part of the programme, and these books were to be used to showcase the project in the final presentation.

To elevate the experience of browsing the projects, the client opted for a generously sized magazine format. The cover and inner pages were digitally printed on a premium glossy paper stock, and bound together with our signature saddle stitching.

Established in Cape Town in 2011, Jungle Jim is now distributed internationally, promoting new writing and imagery from across the African continent.

This month's featured project is the custom notebooks we made for 2019's TEDxPretoria conference. The notebooks were gifts for the attendees of the TEDx event in Pretoria last November. The event is one of the more notable we catered for in 2019 and granted us extra freedom to explore a range of print techniques.

The cover was printed with a UV varnish and spot colour to add a gloss accent to the matt Malmero Slate, and cradled a folio of TEDx's signature-red paper.

In the spirit of "ideas worth sharing", each notebook was intended for use during and after the event. The inside of the notebook was also kitted out with the programme for the day, digitally printed on sun bond, to help the attendees get their bearings on the day, and have a memento of the day for later.

Face masks help contain the spread of coronavirus. Our masks are made with a polycotton blend, which filters out approximately 70% of 0.02-micron particles (5x smaller than the coronavirus). For context, surgical masks filter out 89% of particles.

Our masks are reusable and machine washable. You can get one in any colour, as long as it's black.
