The SIOC-CDT Roadshows continued at Mabogopedi Secondary School, Rooiberg, and the Ipelegeng community wall, where we had the opportunity to reach out and share substance use disorder (SUD) awareness information with members of the community.

Struggling with SUD? Reach out — we're here to walk the journey with you. 014 250 5003 / sudi@thabazimbi.org.za

🧠 Education Wednesday | Let’s Talk About He**in 💉

He**in is one of the most highly addictive and dangerous substances affecting communities across the world — including ours.

🔍 What is He**in?
He**in is an illegal opioid drug made from morphine. It often comes as a white or brown powder, or a sticky black substance known as "black tar he**in."

🚬 How is it used?
He**in can be:

Injected (“spiked”)

Smoked (often mixed with dagga/cannabis)

Inhaled (“chasing the dragon”)

💥 Effects:
He**in gives a quick rush of euphoria followed by a deep sense of calm. However, the high fades after 3–5 hours, leading to intense withdrawal symptoms such as sweating, nausea, anxiety, and muscle pain. This drives the urge to use again — creating a cycle of addiction.

⚠️ Remember:
What starts as a moment of relief can quickly become a lifetime of struggle. Prevention starts with education, awareness, and open conversations.

Yesterday, we proudly joined hands with SIOC-CDT during their planned roadshows aimed at engaging the Thabazimbi communities on the upcoming Community Representative Elections. As one of the beneficiary organisations of SIOC-CDT, we were there to show our support and fulfill our mandate—educating the community about Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and guiding them on how to access help.

Every new week brings a new chance to take a step forward. Healing doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s okay. What matters is your courage to try again — even if yesterday was hard.

🕊️ You are not your addiction.
You are a human being, worthy of love, support, and second chances.

Take today one breath at a time. One choice at a time. One victory at a time — even the small ones.

You’ve made it this far. And that is already proof of your strength. 🙌

You’re not alone. Help is here, and hope is real.
Let this Monday be the beginning of a week filled with purpose, peace, and progress.

67 Minutes for Mandela Day!

In the spirit of Mandela Day, our team proudly joined Marakele National Park and fellow stakeholders for a meaningful 67 Minutes Campaign — cleaning and restoring the Regorogile Four Ways area.

Together, we rolled up our sleeves to honour Madiba’s legacy through action, unity, and service. By keeping our community clean, we’re not only protecting the environment but also promoting health, safety, and dignity for all. 💚🧹

Let’s continue making every minute count — because a better tomorrow is still in our hands.

🧠 July is Mental Illness Awareness Month
📣 Let’s break the stigma — one truth at a time.

Too often, people struggling with both Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and mental illness are misunderstood, judged, or ignored. This month, we’re setting the record straight.

🔥 Myth: People with SUDs and mental illness are weak or lack willpower.
✅ Fact: SUDs and mental illnesses are medical conditions — not character flaws. They require compassion, professional support, and evidence-based treatment, just like any other health issue.

🔥 Myth: You can’t treat mental illness while someone is still using substances.
✅ Fact: Integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders (mental health + SUD) is essential. Recovery is possible when both are addressed together.

🔥 Myth: Once addicted, always addicted.
✅ Fact: Recovery is possible. Many people live full, healthy lives after treatment and ongoing support.

Let’s create a community where understanding replaces stigma and support replaces silence.

💬 Share this post to help raise awareness and build a mentally healthy and addiction-free society.
