🎯Very true!

Depression is real, that's for sure.
But similarly, the effects of exhaustion, sleep deprivation, poor water intake, low haemoglobin (anaemia), poor diets are very real. All these will make you feel 'lazy', unmotivated, and to just down right feel depressed.
This is why I discourage individuals from reading things off the internet and making a diagnosis, and at the same time hoping that my colleagues and I in the medical fraternity are also careful to make sure that all these basic self care things are taken care of before we call anything depression.
Chapter 4 on depression in my book, Your Mental Health Matters speaks to this.
Before you call yourself depressed, consider if you are respecting and honouring your body. If you honour the body, it honours you back. 💚

It can literally be anyone.
Depression does not have a look.
Be encouraged to get help, hospitals and therapists exist to help with emotional suffering too.
Prevention is better... always!

It’s hard to see sometimes. Pay attention. ❤️❤️😥

I wish all those people who advise patients against chemotherapy can read stories like this.

Chemo is hard on the body, we see our patients through it, it takes a toll on their bodies, but people survive it and go on to live their lives.
Life generally has no guarantees, but for cancer for now in modern medicine, chemo is our fighting soldier.
Instead of advising people to not take it, rather advise them to take it while aiming for a nutrient dense diet, with no processed food and all the possible clean eating they can manage.

Starr Shamp, 34, was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer just before her 28th birthday in 2018. Even while undergoing intensive treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, and eight surgeries (including a full mastectomy in December 2024), she continued to push forward.

She even experienced pregnancy during her cancer journey, giving birth to her son Harrison prematurely in 2022 while resuming treatment soon after.

With the unwavering support of her husband Jim and her family, she completed her Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bellevue University.

Starr is now working toward her counselor license and preparing to start a role as a licensed professional counselor in Illinois, determined to use her own experience to support others facing their own challenges.

She continues to receive maintenance infusions every three weeks, showing incredible resilience and hope. As she says:
"Things pop up... Feel them, go through them, and keep going.

The power of books and why you too should write a book...

Some of the things you know, that you consider common knowledge aren’t actually common knowledge. You think everyone knows what you know because you are used to your knowledge, it comes almost as second nature to you that you figure everyone probably already knows it too.
There’s a lot of information that you know that can benefit the next person.
I want to challenge you and say if you’ve ever had people come to you for advice on a specific topic it means they see you as an authority in that area.
But you probably don’t see yourself as an authority in that area because you’ve never thought about it. This is me saying, think about it…

There are things that you do so well, and you take them for granted as just things…
You could totally monetize those but that’s not what this post is about.
This post is about harnessing your abilities and sharing them with the world on a broader scale than a few friends and acquaintances.
I am a believer that we don’t live for ourselves, yeah sure your purpose is yours but achieving it actually has a snowball effect where other people benefit.

I grew up as that kid who lived in the library, I breathed books. I read books back to back, Makalamabedi JSS library has the evidence. I always knew when I was a kid that I wanted to write, and back then it was mostly fiction, then it graduated to just pure poetry when I was at Basco, then to non-fiction… and now I have a non-fiction self help book published, titled ‘Your Mental Health Matters - Everything you wish your doctor would tell you’.

A book allows you to reach people in ways you can’t yet imagine… and thats the beauty of putting yourself out there.
One of my book readers who I was so pleased to run into while selling books on the streets is a 50 year old. I mention my reader’s age because I am humbled that someone that age found my work worthy for them to purchase and read.
And when I met them they told me they enjoyed it, that got me emotional.

A book reaches people in places you haven’t even been to yourself, it crosses borders, crosses racial divide, disregards age differences because your age as an author is not a topic for discussion.

'Write your book', fellow writer, you have something to say, I know you do. Don’t doubt it.
Believe me when I say someone needs to hear what you have to say.
Even your child might want to write as well, and the stumbling block is that they don't know anyone close to them who has ever written a book, but if you write yours, then they will write theirs. See the snowball effect?

Cheers to 2025.

Go forth and conquer 💪 💪
5 months left before 2025 is out.
Amen.
