Worried your 3-year-old’s speech might be delayed?
Here are some helpful guidelines to know when it may be time to chat to a Speech Therapist.

At the age of 3,children should be:
🗣️ Understood 75% of the time by people outside the family
🧠 Using 3–4 word sentences
📚 Using 250 - 1000 words
👂 Following 2-step instructions
🤝 Interacting, taking turns, and sharing their interests

If your little one is still very hard to understand, mostly uses 1–2 word phrases, doesn’t follow instructions well, or gets easily frustrated when trying to communicate — a speech and hearing check can make a world of difference. 💛

Just like a healthy meal needs different food groups, our sentences need different parts of speech — nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, and more! Each one plays a special role in helping children express their thoughts clearly and creatively. 💬✨

When children use only naming words (like “dog”, “ball”, “car”), their speech can sound limited. But when we add action words, describing words, and connecting words, their language becomes richer and more meaningful. 🌈

📣 Why Phonological Awareness Screenings Matter — Especially for Grade R & Grade 1 learners!

Phonological awareness is a key foundation for learning to read and spell successfully. 🧠✨
It’s the ability to hear, identify, and work with the sounds in spoken words — for example, recognising rhymes, identifying beginning sounds, or breaking a word into syllables.
