Greetings everyone,

Over the last few weeks I've received an increased amount of clients wanting to embark on their counselling journey with me, unfortunately, I cannot commit to in-person sessions at the moment as I am busy relocating for my clinical studies.
I do, however, still see a small amount of clients virtually after hours.

Regards
Annuschkè

🌿 MINDFULNESS AND ANXIETY 🌿

Mindfulness is the polar opposite of anxiety. Anxiety has people trapped in their own mind, in their thoughts and emotions, whereas mindfulness frees people, allowing them to experience and accept life as it is without worrying about what bad things might happen or reading into what something might mean. As anyone who lives with anxiety knows, it’s not enough to simply stop worrying. Being told to relax or get rid of anxious thoughts is both frustrating and ineffective. What’s needed instead is something to replace worry and anxiety.

When you focus on concrete things that you can experience with your senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste), you switch your attention away from worries and reclaim what anxiety has stolen from you; your joy and ease of being with yourself and in your life.

Mindfulness isn’t a quick-fix or a magic wand that eliminates anxiety, stress, and other problems. Instead, it’s a new relationship with your life and all its ups and downs. You notice and accept your anxiety rather than tangling with it and struggling against it, because when you fight with anxiety, you remain stuck in it rather than freely living in each moment of your life.

The face behind Registered Counsellor Annuschkè Landman

A few bits and pieces about myself outside the practice.
🫶 I absolutely love my job! I can't imagine myself being in any field other than Psychology. I get to meet pretty amazing people on a daily basis. But, if I had to choose any other career I would probably have chosen dentistry.
🫶 I have three fur babies - two of which are Great Danes. One has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus and requires special assistance getting his food down to his tummy.
🫶 I am a second Dan black belt in Karate and met my partner 13 years ago at Karate.
🫶 In my free time I enjoy watching forensic documentaries and analysing the cases.
🫶 When buying new toys for the counselling room, I feel like a kid in a candyshop - I get silly excited to expand my tool box for child and adolescent counselling sessions.

My Story

I passed my board examination in June 2019 with distinction and are registered as a Registered Counsellor (Independent Practitioner) at the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I studied my B Psychology (Counselling) at Pearson Institute of Higher Education and are currently in the process of completing my MA Psychology (Research) at Nelson Mandela University. During the final year of studies, BPsych students are required to complete a dissertation and 720 hours practicum. I focused on the influence of karate on the self-esteem of 9 to 10 year old children for my thesis. My practicum was done at Herbert Hurd Primary School, Umicare Remedial School, Thuthuzela Care Centre (Dora Nginza Hospital), and Oosterland Child and Youth Care Centre, which gave me a lot of practical experience working with a diversity of individuals. As many of my placement sites required counselling for children, I fell in love with working with younger individuals. I am a strong believer that an individual’s foundation is built early in his/her live, that is why I am dedicated to focus on mental health at an early age.

I work with clients to help them navigate their inner world of emotion. My primary interest and objective is to help guide clients to new, healthier ways of navigating both their internal and external worlds. I am a big advocate for self-love and a big part of counselling with me will be developing clients’ relationships with themselves and others around them. I have a special interest in children and adolescent counselling and draws eclectically from various perspectives to offer my clients a tailored approach to meet their unique needs.
