Psoriasis is more than skin-deep. It is a chronic, systemic inflammatory condition that may increase the risk of comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and mental health challenges.

On this World Psoriasis Day, I invite you to:
🔹 Recognize the connection — be alert to symptoms beyond the skin
🔹 Request regular checkups (blood sugar, blood pressure, heart health)
🔹 Share your journey — breaking stigma helps us all
🔹 Seek holistic care — skin + internal health together

You are not alone. Together, we can stop the domino effect. 💜

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is more common than many realise, but it’s often misunderstood and underreported. It’s a chronic skin condition that affects areas with sweat glands, like underarms, groin, and under the breasts, causing painful lumps, abscesses, and sometimes scarring.

Early recognition and management are crucial. While HS can be uncomfortable and affect confidence, there are effective treatments available that can reduce flare-ups, control symptoms, and prevent long-term complications.

If you notice recurrent lumps, discomfort, or drainage in these areas, don’t wait… seek professional help early. A dermatologist can guide you on the best personalised approach, combining medical treatments and lifestyle support to improve your quality of life.

Struggling with stubborn melasma?

Melasma isn’t just about the spots you see on the skin… it’s influenced by triggers like sun exposure, hormonal changes, and certain skincare or cosmetic products. Early treatment is key, daily sunscreen, correct skincare, and avoiding aggravating factors goes a long way.

At-home care can help maintain results, but some cases need professional guidance. Dermatologists can assess the type of melasma, recommend the right treatments, and help manage expectations, because while improvements are possible, it’s a chronic condition requiring a lot of TLC.

Avoid DIY remedies or harsh treatments that promise quick fixes - they often make pigmentation worse. With the right routine and professional support, you can protect , treat and glow with expert care ✨

Hydrafacial isn’t your average facial ✨ It’s a multi-step, non-invasive treatment that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates your skin all at once, leaving it instantly refreshed and radiant.

Why it’s different: Unlike traditional facials, Hydrafacial uses a unique vortex technology to deeply cleanse and deliver serums that target your skin concerns. It’s gentle, effective, and suitable for most skin types.

Key benefits include:
💧 Intense hydration and plumpness
✨ Smoother texture and brighter complexion
🌿 Reduced appearance of fine lines, congested pores, and dull skin

Most patients see visible results immediately, with optimal results after a minimum of 3–6 sessions spaced appropriately. Over time, skin becomes clearer, more radiant, and healthier from within. This is a firm favourite at the practice.

To the Matrics starting their final exams this week 🤓 this is your moment.

The path ahead may feel uncertain, but trust this: challenges don’t mean defeat but rather shape the story behind your success.

I was once in your shoes: a Dux award scholar with big dreams of becoming a doctor. But medical school said no. Twice. I started studying pharmacy, holding on to the dream. Two years later, I finally got in.

That wasn’t the last “no” I’d hear. I applied four times before I was accepted to specialize in dermatology. Four rejections, but I didn’t give up.

My journey was never easy - my father, a mineworker, was retrenched while I was still in high school. With only one working parent, we kept pushing through.

Today, I stand here as a successful dermatologist, celebrating 20 years since qualifying as a doctor. A journey built on faith, resilience, and relentless hope.

Dreams delayed are not dreams denied.God has been my constant. My mother’s prayers carried me. And my family, who has been my backbone through it all.

So as you step into this exam season, remember:You are allowed to struggle, but never give up.Your dream is valid. Keep going. You’re just getting started! 💪🏽✨🙏🏽

As we commemorate World Menopause Day on 18th October, have you ever wondered what the impact of menopause really looks like on your skin? 👀 I had a little fun with the TikTok aging filter to show you exactly what happens - and yes, it’s both hilarious and real 😅

As if the brain fog and hot flushes alone are not enough, the skin being the largest organ in the body also takes a knock.

During menopause your skin loses collagen, elasticity, and hydration, and signs of aging can become more visible.

The good news? With the right skincare, treatments, and lifestyle support, you can age gracefully and keep your glow ✨

ENTER TO WIN:
👉 Comment below with your biggest fear about menopause or the worst menopause symptom that you experienced (eg: brain fog, dryness, hot flushes) and stand a chance to win a ticket to the menopause summit this Saturday hosted by and sibulubelwanaob_gyn and mc’d by our own umam wabantu

Winner to be announced on Friday.

🤳🏽Share it with someone who needs a little menopause education (and a laugh) today!

Microneedling is more than just tiny pricks.. it’s a powerful skin rejuvenation treatment 🤩 By creating controlled micro-injuries, it stimulates your skin’s natural healing response and boosts collagen production.

What can it help with?
💫 Fine lines and wrinkles
💫 Acne scars and other types of scarring
💫 Uneven texture and enlarged pores
💫 Loss of skin firmness and elasticity

Most patients start seeing noticeable improvements after a minimum of 3–6 sessions spaced appropriately. Over time, skin becomes smoother, firmer, and more radiant.. the results are cumulative, so patience is key!

Microneedling is a tool your skin will love when paired with the right routine and professional guidance.

Share what your love on my list or what you would add 😃

Beauty isn’t just skin deep.. it starts from within 🩷Healthy skin reflects a healthy lifestyle, good habits, and taking care of yourself both inside and out.

As dermatologists, our goal is to focus on the root cause of your skin concerns and guide you toward the right treatments. Unfortunately real results also depend on the actions you take at home - your skincare routine, nutrition, stress management, sleep, and self-care all play a role.

Think of us as your skin guides, not miracle workers 😜😅. When you pair professional care with consistent self-care, that’s when your skin truly thrives.

This World Mental Health Day, take a moment to celebrate yourself and the little self-care rituals that make you feel good. Your skin, mind, and soul will thank you.

Benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which one is right for your skin? 💭 Both are powerful ingredients, but they work in different ways.

✨ Benzoyl peroxide targets the bacteria that cause breakouts. It’s often best for inflammatory acne, those red and painful papules with matter that just won’t quit. ✨ Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which means it gets right into the pores to dissolve excess oil and unclog them. This makes it especially helpful if you struggle with blackheads or congested skin.

The right choice depends on the type of acne you’re dealing with and your skin’s tolerance. For some people, it’s even a combination of both used under professional guidance.
