Hello KidzGolfers

Great news!

After all the delays caused by the flooding on our course, we can start again this Saturday, 7 June 2025 (08h00 - 09h00).

A reminder, esp as we have some newbies, please adhere to the following:

(1) Answer the poll to indicate attendance. This is critical for our planning.

(2) Being on time is non-negotiable in golf. Be at the club, ready to play at 08h00. Its very disruptive to arrive late!

(3) Dressed neatly with takkies & socks. Hats, sunscreen & water if its hot.

All registered KidzGolfers (parents) should be on our WhatsApp Group where we post our weekly poll. Please respond by no later than 3pm on Friday to confirm your attendance

How many parents have sabotaged their children’s enjoyment of Fortnite or Minecraft by haunting their child’s every move?

Answer…….. almost certainly none.

Why?

Answer. Because we re not bothered about the result. We couldn’t care less. As long as the kids playing their various games are enjoying themselves.

So what changes with golf? Could it be that we are overly invested in the outcome?

If that’s the case, let’s admit it dads, we could be seriously getting in the way of our kids falling in love with a game that has lifelong potential, a social, friendly, healthy GAME!

Never lose sight of the fact that if your child doesnt love golf, they’ll walk away at some point. It’s their choice

So if the average age of a PGA Tour debut is 27 and every 7yr old is a million balls away from the requisite number of practice hours required…….. All we can usually do, is get in the way.

No adult would agree to 20yr apprenticeship, strewn with tension and angst, with zero guarantees at the end of it.

Let your kids explore golf for what they love about it. Sit back, scroll, chat to other parents in lesson time, and offer gentle encouragement and praise.

Remove the fear of failure

Re enforce the playing of “just a game”

Listen to what kids say they like about golf, ie time with you/fun/ games, and give them more of that

And Caleb Eriksen is our 2024 Golfer of the Year. Caleb has been consistent throughout the year, regularly earning the Putting and Chipping Champion of the week. Well done Caleb, we look forward to you getting your handicap

Matthew Jones was awarded Most Improved Golfer 2024. He joined us at the beginning of the year shy and uncertain but has blossomed. His skills have greatly improved and we look forward to him continuity to grow next year.

Congratulations to Neil Mackay who achieved his handicap this year. He will make his club competiton debut in the Umkomaas Golf Club Ladies Christmas Alliance Competiton. Well done Neil

And after a four-way tie in the putting competiton there was an epic play-off over several extra holes. Jaydon Pillay was crowned the Putting Champion

And not to be outdone, sister Alisa Eriksen showed up all the boys with her excellent short game. She was crowned the Chipping Champion, amassing 8 points with her 5 balls.
