The birth of such a center was the effort of our former head of department, the late prof. Mc Connachie. With the help of many donors he was able to build the hospital and create a center of excellence in the poor area of Transkei and for this reason he received an award from Her Majesty The Queen of England. In the past many volunteers from overseas have been a significant help for the staff at B
