Newborns don’t have hard, bony kneecaps like adults.
Instead, their kneecaps are made of soft, flexible cartilage 🧸

🚼 This flexibility protects babies as they crawl, walk, and fall, helping absorb impact while their bodies grow stronger.

🕒 Between ages 2 and 6, this cartilage gradually turns into bone through a natural process called ossification, forming the adult kneecap.

📸 This is why children’s X-rays look very different from adult X-rays.
