Angelo, aged 10, lost both his legs to meningitis, received his first prostheses in Cape Town and has been a patient of Barkley & Oates Inc for the past 5 years.
In an ideal world, this young man would have new sockets. But in the real world,, with budget constraints, alternative plans need to be made. The socket was getting tight over condyles and fib head so windows were cut out. This will buy a few months until a refit or new prostheses are provided. These adjustments could save a few extra refits during the growing years.
It is a balancing act between patient care and budget constraints. Hopefully with is a win for all.
