New sunscreen review!☀️
SkinCeuticals recently launched their Clear Daily Soothing UV Defense. This sunscreen is targeted towards redness-prone skin.
It’s a hybrid sunscreen, so it’s a blend of mineral and chemical filters. It also contains soothing and calming ingredients like bisabolol.
I don’t personally have redness-prone skin (except for my nose!), but I found that the sunscreen left little to no white cast and felt light and comfortable on my skin. It even gave my skin a bit of a glow which I prefer over a matte finish. I would definitely will be using this one again in my rotation and I look forward to hearing feedback from some of my patients with rosacea, sensitive skin and redness-prone skin. If you have sensitive skin and a favorite sunscreen you’d like to share, drop a comment below! I’m always open to testing new sunscreens.
Stay tuned for my review of the new Allies of Skin sunscreen!
*I was gifted this sunscreen as part of my Advisory role with . This review is not sponsored.

I layer a moisturizer under my sunscreen all summer long.
Why? Here are 2 reasons to consider layering moisturizer under your sunscreen:
✅ You have dry, sensitive skin—that extra layer can help protect your skin barrier and keep your skin hydrated throughout the day.
✅ If you’re someone who prefers to use mineral only sunscreens, you might find that some make your skin feel dry. People with oily skin often like that matte look, but if you have normal or dry skin, then adding a moisturizing cream under these sunscreens can feel more comfortable and keep your skin looking dewy, not dry.
Do you use a moisturizer under sunscreen? I do because I fall into the first category - I have dry skin and live by my moisturizer, Bowe Glowe Cream. I layer my Asta C Vitamin C serum, then Bowe Glowe Cream, then I get dressed and finally apply my sunscreen as the final step.

Retinoids are not one size fits all.
Not every product is going to work for every person. I share this a lot here because even as a dermatologist, my sensitive skin can tolerate certain retinoids better than others. I’ve tried many different methods (eg: layering a cream under my retinoid) and many different strengths of retinoids.
I’ve landed on retiNAL with an AL as opposed to retiNOL with an OL. I can use it 3 nights back to back in my routine and then, my skin needs one recovery night. Some people can use Tretinoin night after night and that works for their skin. It does not work for my skin and that’s okay!
If you want to try the one I personally use, which is the one I formulated with my team at DWB Beauty, we’re having our annual Skinvestment Savings Event so it’s 25% off (see link in bio).
If you want a six-pack, you have to push through the burn. If you want healthy skin, you do NOT have to push through the burn, no matter what you have heard in the past.
Retinoids are a situation where you can learn to listen to your skin and you can start slow and level up when your skin is ready, and as your skin is able to.

☀️4 Sunscreens I’ve been using on rotation and recommending to my patients:
Beauty of Joseon SPF 50 + To me, this feels like skincare. It layers beautifully over Bowe Glowe and under makeup. This has been one of my favorites for a while now. I order on stylevana.com.
Naked Sundays Water Gel Serum is lightweight and may be a new favorite if you have oily or acne prone skin. Also pretty invisible- so works for a wide range of skin tones.
EltaMD UV Clear comes in tinted and now a deep tint as well. This gives you a little bit more of a hybrid experience, where you get a bit more of blurring and color correction. So, for those days when you want some coverage, it’s a good option.
Skinceuticals just came out with a new sunscreen called Clear Daily which is good for sensitive, mature skin. It can feel a little bit heavy if you have more combination or oily skin but a nice option for my sensitive, dry girlies.

This Youthforia video has come up a lot in my office with my patients with deeper skin tones – not only when it comes to finding makeup that works for deeper skin tones, but also in the context of how hard it is to find a tinted sunscreen that blends well.
This is what I share with my patients, but if you have found a sunscreen that you love for deeper skin tones, drop it below!
