Ububele Ububele is an educational and psychotherapy trust providing training and services to improve the emo

Ububele's training in mental health focuses on preventative strategies for children under the age of seven, their parents, families and other caregivers. The Ububele model links Western and African psychological knowledge and practice. Ububele seeks to address the emotional trauma of South Africa's past, the ongoing mental and physical effects of poverty and the daily challenges faced by those who

are socially marginalised, through community-based mental health care. Our motto is "Training through service, service through training." Ububele’s vision for South Africa is that of a nurturing society with secure, well-cared for children, who grow up to be emotionally healthy adults, competent parents and good citizens. Our objectives:
Develop models of community-based psychosocial care and support
Develop, run and disseminate training courses focused on preventative mental health strategies
Conduct research focused on the mental health needs of children under the age of seven, their parents and other caregivers
Advocate for the mental health care rights of children under 7
Provide psychotherapy services to Alexandra.

"I was born in sunny Durban and had an interest in psychology from a young age due to my mom working in the field. I studied my undergraduate degree at The University of Pretoria majoring in English literature and psychology. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I was convinced that I would become a Counselling Psychologist, but life had other plans for me. After studying my Honour’s in Applied Psychology at The University of the Free State, I found that I enjoyed the research process and decided to study a MA in Social and Psychological Research at Wits. The love that I have for research fuels me, and I have a particular interest in doing the type of community-based research engaged in at Ububele. Not many people know about research psychology, so I hope that my story inspires young aspiring psychologists to open their minds to the many possibilities that this specialty affords."
