Its the Added Sugar. Not the fat or sodium...Educate yourselves.

Most importantly stop added sugar in your child's diet.

Results: Added sugars were positively associated with diastolic BP (P = 0.0462, β = 0.0206) and serum triglycerides (P = 0.0206, β = 0.1090). Sodium was not significantly associated with either measure of BP nor was dietary fat with blood lipids.

ABSTRACT. Background: Hypertension and dyslipidemia have traditionally been associated with dietary sodium and fat intakes, respectively; however, they have rec

Your gut bugs need some diversity!
We should aim for 30 plant points per week.

What counts?
One portion of fruits, veggies, legumes (beans & lentils), nuts, seeds per point, herbs & spices count as a ¼ point.

There is no one food that can make or break our health or "boost our immunity" but rather a lifestyle pattern that includes social connection, proper sleep, moving our bodies throughout the day, eating more plant foods and managing our stress levels.

Interesting read on the dangers of long term avoidance of gluten. Of course we mean whole food forms of gluten such as spelt, bulgur, wheat, rye and barley not refined forms like pasta and flour based foods.

Gluten free diets are not for the long term, they can help rest the gut while it heals but they need to be brought back again in most people.

Soaking your grains overnight with an acidic medium can help make them easier to digest.

So let's solve the underlying issue - your poor digestion instead of making gluten (or any food for that matter) the enemy.

In recent years, the gluten-free diet has become incredibly fashionable. However, 98% of the population is NOT diagnosed with gluten sensitivity, celiac disease, or wheat allergy. For the majority of us, going gluten-free might actually do more harm than good!

Unhappy Meals by Michael Pollan,

A long but great read for those interested in food and health.

He deep dives into why we are all so confused about what is healthy and gives practical tips on how to get back to basics with REAL food.

https://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/28/magazine/28nutritionism.t.html

The story of how basic questions about what to eat got so complicated reveals a great deal about the institutional imperatives of the food industry, nutritional science and journalism.

The best thing you can do for your health is to cook your own meals, and if you can, grow your own food.

Acrylamide in Coffee. Another reason (besides the taste) to switch from instant.

Natural is always better for you. Remember to choose REAL FOOD!

The highest mean acrylamide concentrations were found in coffee substitutes (818 pg/kg) followed by instant coffee (358 microg/kg) and then roasted coffee (179 microg/kg).

It was demonstrated that roasting process had the most significant effect on acrylamide levels in natural coffee, however there were no relationships found with coffee species. Due to the high acrylamide levels demonstrated in coffee substitutes, recommended amounts should be defined and manufacture...
