We've wrapped up our final CPGR Academy course of 2025 - Practical Training in Genomic Techniques - delivered with the valued support of DIPLOMICS (Distributed Platform in Omics).
Over the past two weeks, researchers and professionals gained hands-on expertise in DNA extraction, quality control, qPCR, and Next Generation Sequencing to advance their research journey.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated CPGR Academy Team (Aubrey Shoko, Ntlhokoa, Powel, Manie, Le Grange) and the enthusiastic participants who made this final 2025 program such a success. The skills and insights gained here will no doubt contribute to pioneering science across the continent.
→ Want to level up in 2026? Keep an eye out for our upcoming CPGR Academy courses-where we continue bridging education and innovation in OMICS.

We believe equity begins with access to healthcare, knowledge, science, and innovation.

Nelson Mandela’s vision lives on in every genome we sequence, every insight we uncover, life transformed through South African science.

This Mandela Day, we commit to using our hands to combat poverty through data that drives solutions and science that serves people.

Local research holds global power and real impact starts at home.

The meerkat trend is funny, but the message hits hard.

Behind every discovery is a team that shows up, stays curious, and gets it done. At CPGR, that’s exactly what we do, from genome to breakthrough.

🌱 It's International Day for Biological Diversity!

Biodiversity loss isn’t a distant problem. It’s a daily one.
With over 1 million species facing extinction, our best hope lies in understanding, protecting, and restoring ecosystems at the molecular level.

At , we use genomics, proteomics, and real-time molecular tools to support biodiversity research in South Africa and beyond, from pathogen tracking to ecosystem genomics and endangered species studies.

We’re proud to contribute to a more sustainable, nature-aligned future.

🎉 We’ve leveled up our automation game!

We’re excited to announce the acquisition of the epMotion® 5075 liquid handling workstation from Eppendorf— a strategic investment to supercharge our high-throughput library preparation for NGS and sample processing for other genomics workflows.

This advanced automation system will help us:
🔹 Streamline complex protocols
🔹 Improve reproducibility and standardization
🔹 Boost capacity and turnaround times
🔹 Minimize manual errors and hands-on time

Last week, our NGS team completed in-depth, hands-on training with Eppendorf specialists to ensure we hit the ground running. We’re now equipped to scale with precision and confidence.

📢 Have a high-throughput genomics project in the pipeline? Let’s talk about how our new automation capabilities can support your goals.

We had a fantastic time exhibiting at the recent Multi-Institute symposium hosted at the University of Cape Town, bringing together leading minds from the Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience Institute, Cape Heart Institute, and Lung Institute.
It was a privilege to engage with researchers, clinicians, and collaborators across disciplines, all working toward innovative solutions in health and biomedical science. Events like these remind us of the power of collaboration in driving translational research and advancing precision medicine.

Thank you to the organizers and all who visited our stand — we’re excited about the conversations started and the possibilities ahead.✨

From double helix to direct diagnostics, DNA sequencing has come a long way.

Today, CPGR is one of the few genomics labs in the world equipped with all three generations of sequencing technology.

This DNA Day, we’re not just reflecting on the breakthroughs that changed biology, we’re building on them.

Because when you understand DNA, you unlock the future of human health.

And we’re proud to be doing that right here in South Africa.
