10 October - World Mental Health Day💚

Mental health is just as important as physical health. It impacts how we think, feel and engage in daily life.

Hear from one of our Occupational Therapists, on the importance of mental health:

"As an Occupational Therapist, I see how mental well-being affects everything from self-care to work and relationships.
Sadly, stigma still prevents many people from seeking support. It’s time we normalize mental health conversations and recognize that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness."

Let’s break the stigma and support each other in living balanced, meaningful lives.

There is no health without mental health.💚

👁️✨ Today we celebrate World Sight Day! ✨👁️

At Dr Harry Surtie Hospital, we’re raising awareness about the importance of eye health and regular check-ups.

Join our staff in celebrating World Sight Day, by creating your own . Be creative. Be bold.

How to maintain good eye health?
Get regular eye exams, protect your eyes from UV light by wearing sunglasses, practice good hygiene, and adopt a lifestyle that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking. This will help reduce the risk of conditions like diabetes and hypertension that can negatively affect your vision.

Let’s work together to protect our vision — because a brighter world starts with healthy eyes! 💙👓

WORLD HEART DAY 2025❤️

Our dieticians celebrated World Heart day today. Patients and staff of our Medical ward joined our celebrations.

1 in 5 people will die prematurely from heart diseases.
Heart diseases claim more lives than cancer and chronic respiratory diseases combined, yet up to 80% of heart diseases and strokes are preventable.

Reduce your risk for heart attacks or strokes by:
1. Eating healthy: reduce intake of processed, fatty foods, limit salt intake, eat more fruit and vegetables, drink more water (aim for 8 glasses per day)
2. Increase exercise: aim for 30 minutes per day for 5 days a week.
3. Stop smoking
4. Reduce alcohol intake
5. Use prescribed medication every day
