*NATIONAL ARTS COUNCIL NEW CALL FOR ARTS PROJECT APPLICATIONS IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19*

The South African Arts & Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF) is encouraging all artists to apply for the National Arts Council Funding.

*Closing date: 19 June 2020*
*Outcome date: 30 June 2020*

The National Arts Council (NAC) invites artists and arts organisations to apply for funding for arts projects that comply with Covid-19 restrictions and protocols.

*This new project call supersedes and replaces the one that closed on 30 April 2020, and is part of the NAC's response to the Covid-19 pandemic.*

The NAC would like to thank everyone who applied during the last funding call. Those who have submitted applications, believe they meet the new criteria, and would like the applications to be considered in the new call, may leave their applications on the NAC’s online Grant Management System (GMS) for consideration.

Those who wish to withdraw their applications should press the 'un-submit' button on their application page of the GMS. Those who wish to amend their applications and resubmit, should also press the 'un-submit' button, edit and resubmit before the deadline. For further queries, please use the GMS Dashboard.

Applicants have until Friday, 19 June 2020, to submit applications. Considering the urgency of the situation following the devastating effects of the Covid-19 restrictions and protocols, the NAC will start adjudicating applications as they are received. Announcement of the outcomes will be made on Tuesday, 30 June 2020.

Individuals and registered arts organisations are requested to propose projects that are aimed at educating and entertaining using Information Technology and digital innovation, with the focus being on creating, exhibiting and showcasing works in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The NAC encourages the arts community to respond with agility to new ways of developing, promoting, selling and creating art. This includes reimagining audience interaction with the arts, the creation of new paradigms for viewing and understanding the place of art during this time of the pandemic. The creation of advocacy opportunities to reposition the arts in the Covid-19 environment taking into cognisance restrictions from levels 5 to 2 will be an advantage.

Applications may be made for the funding of arts projects within the following programmes: Social cohesion and nation-building; Innovation, design and creation of new work; Capacity building; Strategic initiatives; and Platforms, exhibitions and festivals. Proposed projects should be of national significance, taking into account the NAC’s strategic imperatives of the creation of new works, arts development, arts promotion, job creation opportunities, capacity building in arts entrepreneurship and facilitation of access to the arts through innovative digital works.

Preference will be given to applications that promote environmental sustainability, nation-building and social cohesion, and have a strong community base, conceived in collaboration with others working in similar fields. Proposed projects must demonstrate impact and value for the communities in which they operate.

The project applied for must fulfil two or more of the following arts outcomes:
economic value,
creative value,
social value,
therapeutic value and educational value.

This funding call also extends to arts organisations and individuals that support the involvement of women, youth and people living with disabilities, particularly in historically disadvantaged areas.

*The minimum allocation per application is R100 000, and the maximum is R500 000. The allocations will be in line with the redress and transformation imperatives of the NAC.*

A detailed media statement is on our website to clarify the reason for this new call and provide more information regarding the new approach of this application call.
