Dana Tehuis, in the beautiful, rural town of Wakkerstroom, is a private, non-profit assisted living and frail care organisation. Dana Tehuis is a private, non-profit organization, run by Board members from the community. We fall under the Older Person Act no. 13 of 2006. Dana Tehuis is situated in the beautiful rural town of Wakkerstroom in Mpumalanga, which is part of an extensive wetland reserve renowned for its variety of birds. We are approximately a three and a half hour drive from Jhb and four hours from Durban . Our nearest town Volksrust - is 28 kms away where there are fulltime doctors, dentists, chemists and a provincial hospital. There are various cottage possibilities available -

Rental of a cottage

Only 1 bedroomed units are for rental
Rent and levy calculated per square meter of building. Rental agreement is for 1 year

Purchase of a cottage

All units are for sale
Price of unit is decided by the Board and is non-negotiable
The Board sells the buyer Right of Life occupancy
Levy is based per square meter of building

Self Build

You can build your own unit for Right of Life occupancy
Dana Tehuis and Municipal building regulations apply


Frail care is offered at two levels -

Medium Care

Available to those who require some day to day assistance but can otherwise take care of themselves. Rooms are not furnished - residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture
Board and lodge includes 24hour assisted living, 3 meals per day in the dining room, laundry and cleaning of the room. High Care

24hour nursing care under the supervision of a Senior nursing Sister and care workers. Convalescence is also available for short term periods for those who have undergone an operation and who need time to recover before returning home. Dana is a frail care centre and not a hospital and as such there is no advanced medical equipment such as life-support machines.

Dana Tehuis, a registered non-profit organization (001-952-NPO) dedicated to providing compassionate care for the elderly, proudly announces its Dana Fund Raising Festival, taking place on Saturday, 27 September 2025, starting at 09h00.
This vibrant community event stands alongside the well-loved Dana Golf Day as one of the two major fundraising occasions hosted by Dana Tehuis. As the organization receives no government subsidies, these events are essential to sustaining the high-quality care and dignity we offer our residents.
🛍️ Festival Highlights Include:
• 09h00 – Festival opens with a variety of stalls: Coffee, Cakes, Puddings, Pannekoek, and a White Elephant Table
• 11h00 – High-quality Meat Sales at excellent prices
• 12h30 – Lunch Time featuring Curry & Rice and Prego Rolls
• Additional attractions include a Beer Tent, Book Sale, Pancakes, Tea & Coffee, Wacky Knitters, and more!
