"Influence isn’t about control — it’s about being the voice they carry with them long after you’ve left the room." The reality is that our voice in our children's lives becomes their internal voice regardless. Do we want that to be a voice of guidance, strength, empowerment and love, or one of deprecation, disempowerment, fear-mongering and pain? Discipline is a vital part of parenting and it is about guiding, protecting, raising and empowering to do.

We can force compliance through punishment.
We can demand silence, obedience, control.
And for a moment, it might feel like we’ve “won.”

But real power isn’t about dominance — it’s about relationship. And punishment, over time, erodes the very foundation of that relationship: trust.

The child may “listen” — but do they really hear what we’re saying?

Because true influence lives not in the reactions we can extract, but in the values we quietly plant, the safety we consistently protect, and the connection we fiercely preserve.

It grows when a child feels safe enough to open up, secure enough to make mistakes, and supported enough to learn from them.

Influence isn’t about control — it’s about being the voice they carry with them long after you’ve left the room.

Influence lasts.
Power fades.
