I am a born empath with a passion to help people reach their full potential by bringing balance to the body, mind and soul. During my own healing journey I experienced an awakening which enhanced my inherent abilities further and has allowed me to become a stronger healer and intuitive reader. My inborn passion is to help facilitate the healing of anyone I meet and it's with this care that I have created Roots Therapy. I want to get down to the root cause of the problem so that my clients can experience true healing - healing that is steadfast and restorative. All of my healing techniques are energy based, including the easy-to-follow nutritional advice and the herbal supplements that I may recommend. Having a BA Degree in Psychology I am very adept at counselling my clients through their trials and tribulations, with my number one goal being the complete balance between the body, mind and soul!

Did you know that *meditation* comes in a variety of different forms - it's not just sitting cross legged saying 'OM' 😌

The idea of meditation is to *stop the momentum* so any practice or modality that brings about a pause from the hustle and bustle can be used to bring about the same sense of calm presence!

Think about the times you were 'lost' in a task - we often feel this when we are engaged in something creative 🎨 When you paint, dance, sing, crochet, walk, cook - in other words when you allow yourself to be present and only focus on what you are doing - can be just as effective as meditation! Journalling is another way to bring your focus within and calm the inner storm -

Today I've included a wonderful guide that was shared with me by a very special friend of mine which she found hugely helpful as a prompt for her to journal with intention ✨

Someone once asked me *"You are always so positive - Do you ever get sad?"*

My reply was "Of course I do - I get sad, mad, frustrated and even at times angry"... but the difference is is that I don't ruminate in it -

Having experienced adrenal fatigue in the past I learnt during my healing from chronic illness to *not sweat the small stuff* and everything really is the small stuff!!! 😊

When a negative emotion arises I bring awareness to the fact that I am no longer in a positive frame of mind and I ask my body what it needs to do to express this uncomfortable emotion - you will be surprised by the answer when you do ask! Sometimes it wants me to move, dance, hum, sing, scream or even cry - and once this emotion finds a way to express itself it no longer needs to linger or be seen. It will move through you and you will find that you are left with the greatest sense of peace 🪷

We are souls having a human experience and it's important to remember that these experiences are here to help us grow - especially the hard ones ✨

February is known as the month of *love* ♥️
So what happens physically to our body when we experience deep emotive states?

*Did you know*

Emotions enter our limbic system of the brain where we then use our heart to interpret these vibrations as feelings. These feelings physically turn into polypeptides that can affect us biologically!

Your limbic system only understands gestures, postures and touch so when an emotion 'hits' it's important to then notice where do we FEEL our emotion (stomach, lower back etc... ) - traumatic experiences often get *stuck* in an area and create imbalance.

Here's a beautiful meditation to connect with your body and channel unconditional love to any areas that hold discomfort and emotional pain -

Those of you that attend my workshops and retreats are aware of how much emphasis I place on cultivating a good morning routine - a routine which involves mindfulness, connection and presence 🪷

And for a balanced morning routine I encourage you to embrace 4 very important self-care rituals which incorporate exposing your body to light, movement, meditation and good nutrition on waking ✨

1. Let light flood your room when rising - stand outside for a few moments and let the rays of the sun awaken your cells

2. Utilize the *Insight Timer* app and find a meditation to begin your day with peace and positivity

3. Follow my morning protocol of lemon water, celery juice and a healthy smoothie

4. Incorporate the following 6 exercises into your daily routine which are a must for good stability and flexibility as we age -

* Sit To Stand / Squatting (10 reps)
* Slow High Knees Marching (45 seconds)
* Heel Raises (25 reps)
* Toe Raises (15 reps)
* Balancing on each leg (30 seconds per side)
* Wall Push Ups / Modified Knee Push Ups (10 reps)

Do these excercises at least 3 x a week!

You know that I love a good potato so let's see why!

Potatoes, sweet potatoes and winter squash are known as *Critical Clean Carbohydrates* - and these provide our tissues, muscles, cells and organs with the exact glucose they need to balance and heal 🥔 🍠

Stress diminishes glucose and a diet of high fat obstruct glucose from being properly absorbed - Without glucose we wouldn't be able to stay alive and thrive 💪🏻

This critical glucose is vital as it :-

* Protects the nervous system
* Stops the brain from shrinking
* Builds muscles
* Protects the heart
* Is vital for liver function
* Protects the adrenals
* Helps you cope with stress
* Is critical for healing
* Feeds every cell in the body

These type of root vegetables and squashes hold significant metaphysical meanings and symbolize warmth, compassion and emotional nourishment - it's no wonder that these are such comforting foods to eat 😋

At every given moment you have a thousand possibilities ✨

Think about it - You have the power to choose exactly where you want to go and what you want to do... The only limit is you!

Remember that everything you have in your life is something you set out to get. It was at one stage a dream, a goal - only a possibility until you brought it into your reality with the various choices and decisions you made along the way - so if you are currently not where you want to be make the choice to change your path!

And the easiest way to do this is to focus on the things that bring you the most joy and invite these experiences into your day-to-day life 😉

These little pockets of tasty delight are a definite favourite in my home 🏡

So easy to make and a wonderful way to get rid of scraps of vegetable leftovers in the fridge! Pair these potato pockets with a tasty salad for any lunch or dinnertime 😋

Potatoes are an incredible choice for those recovering from stress damage and adrenal exhaustion - highly beneficial for depression, insomnia, sleep disorders, and brain fog.

*Potato Pockets*

*Ingredients:*

4-5 medium-sized potatoes
4 Tbsp gluten free flour
Sea salt and pepper
1/2-1 tsp water (if needed)

*Filling:*

1 cup finely chopped cauliflower
1/3 cup frozen green peas, defrosted
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp ground cilantro
1/2 ground turmeric
1.5 tsp curry powder
Small handful fresh cilantro, finely chopped
Sea salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
1 tsp lemon juice (optional)

*Directions:*

Place all the potatoes in a large pot fitted with a steaming basket and steam until soft, about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove and cool for 10 to 15 minutes, until cool enough to handle.

Place the potatoes in a large, flat-bottomed bowl or pot and mash until they are broken down. Add the salt, pepper, flour and mash until the flour and starch have been incorporated. If the mixture is very dry, add a bit of warm water. If the mixture is very wet, add a bit more flour. The dough should be pliable and not stick to your fingers. Set aside while you make the filling.

Steam the chopped cauliflower in a steaming basket or fine mesh sieve over a pot of water until cooked. Remove and add to a bowl with the peas, ground cumin, ground cilantro, curry powder, fresh cilantro, sea salt, pepper and lemon juice (if using). Mix well.

To make the pockets, take a handful of the potato mixture and roll it into a ball. Flatten the sides out so that there is a cavity in the middle, then add a tablespoon of the filling. Close the pocket gently and smooth out any creases. Repeat with remaining dough.

Place a non-stick pan over medium-low heat or spray with a bit of avocado oil (if needed). Add the pockets and cook for 5-10 minutes on either side, until browned and crispy.

The past few weeks I have been battling with a pinched nerve 🥴 It's one of those injuries that demands rest... and demands patience!

In between the rest and the healing it has allowed me to truly connect to this area of tension and imbalance - the one that sits right between the neck and the shoulder blades. The place in our body that often represents the responsibilities that we hold - the carrying of other's burdens as well as our own ✨

If you too find yourself with tightness and tension in this area as well as any feelings of fatigue, exhaustion or overwhelm please use the following meditation to connect and balance - let us lay our burdens down 🪷

*It's in the beets!*

Beetroot's are known for their powerful benefits particularly due to the nitrates within which aid in boosting nitric oxide thereby promoting better blood flow and cardiovascular health.

Beetroot's are highly beneficial for muscle performance as it enhances oxygen and blood flow, reducing fatigue and improving endurance 💪🏻

The antioxidants contained therein reduce fatty deposits and aid liver detoxification. The high fiber content promotes good gut health, better digestion and supports immunity. Beetroot's are also marvelous at fighting oxidative stress and inflammation.

The metaphysical properties of this vibrant red vegetable promotes grounding and connects our heart to love and passionate responses ❤️

Whether you steam them, roast them or juice them - your body, mind and soul will enjoy them!
