Mediclinic Welkom is proud to support the Right to Sight initiative and recently collaborated with the Eye Clinic at Bongani Regional Hospital to perform pro bono cataract procedures. On 8 August, Dr Akhona Macala, an ophthalmologist and Dr Tina Mafisa, an anaesthetist, successfully performed 15 cataract surgeries, from a brave 12-year-old patient to the eldest, aged 86. Both doctors generously volunteered their services, while Mediclinic Welkom provided the necessary consumables and theatre capacity to make this possible. Mediclinic Welkom is honoured to contribute to restoring eyesight and remains committed to making a meaningful impact in the Lejweleputswa community. Mediclinic Welkom celebrated World Prematurity Day 2024. The Neonatal Critical Care staff were dressed in purple and the Unit echoed the celebrations with purple decorations. Parents of admitted premature babies in the Neonatal Critical Care Unit, doctors and staff joined in the celebrations as we recognise the important work being done in this essential units.
